Gypsy Rose Blanchard and her boyfriend Ken Urker have welcomed their first child, a daughter named Aurora Raina Urker. The couple shared the news on social media, marking a new chapter in their lives following their reconciliation.
Urker posted a photo on Instagram on January 1, 2025, showing himself and Blanchard cradling their newborn in a hospital bed. The post was captioned:
"Welcoming 2025 with the greatest gift of all 👼."
The baby was born on December 28, 2024, in Louisiana. The date holds additional significance as it coincides with the first anniversary of Blanchard’s release from prison.
In 2016, Blanchard pleaded guilty to the second-degree murder of her mother Dee Dee Blanchard, who she claimed subjected her to sustained mental, physical, and medical abuse. She was sentenced to 10 years in prison and released on parole after eight years on December 28, 2023.
Her case got widespread media attention and in 2019 Hulu produced a limited series, The Act, on her story. In 2024, Lifestyle released her reality show Gypsy Rose: Life After Lock Up.
Ken Urker and Gypsy Rose Blanchard's complex relationship journey
Blanchard, now 33, has had a tumultuous personal history. She first became engaged to Ken Urker in October 2018 while serving time for her involvement in the 2015 murder of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard. The engagement ended in August 2019, and Blanchard later married Ryan Anderson in July 2022 after her release.
However, her marriage to Anderson dissolved within three months, leading to her reconciliation with Urker in early 2024. Their rekindled romance became public when the couple revealed matching husky tattoos in April 2024.
By July, Gypsy Rose Blanchard announced her pregnancy in a YouTube video, calling the news a 'blessing' and sharing maternity photos on Instagram. In August, they hosted a gender reveal using pink confetti-filled balloons, confirming they were expecting a baby girl.
The pregnancy drew media attention when Anderson underwent a paternity test, citing Louisiana’s legal requirement to establish paternity for separated couples. In November 2024, Blanchard addressed the speculation by publicly sharing the test results, which confirmed that Urker was the baby’s father.
"Ken is the father. Ken is going to be an incredible dad," she wrote, putting to rest online theories and rumors.
Blanchard also shared a detailed conception timeline in response to speculation. She disclosed that she left Anderson in March 2024 and conceived Aurora in early May with Ken Urker.
Blanchard revealed that Aurora’s name holds deep sentimental value for the couple. During their initial relationship in 2018, both independently chose the name Aurora, inspired by their shared fascination with the Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis. Despite their subsequent breakup and Blanchard’s marriage to Anderson, the couple held onto the name and its significance.
In a December 2024 interview with People, Blanchard dismissed speculations about the name’s origin, clarifying that it was not inspired by Disney or family pets. Blanchard expressed excitement about visiting Sweden to witness the Northern Lights with Ken Urker and Aurora after completing her parole.
Blanchard, who authored the memoir My Time to Stand, expressed her gratitude and optimism for the year ahead.
"For this upcoming year, I’m really excited just to bring her into the world and have a lot of family time together," she told People Magazine.
Additionally, Blanchard mentioned that her father and stepmother would assist with childcare while she and Ken Urker celebrate her newfound freedom on a "nice vacation".
