Comedian Ricky Gervais has shared some of the jokes he would have cracked if he had hosted the 2025 Golden Globes. The event was held on January 5, 2025, and was hosted by Nicki Glaser.
On January 3, Ricky Gervais took to X to share an image of himself in his bathtub, along with a caption contemplating how he would have hosted the event. The comedian has hosted the event five times: in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2016, and 2020.
In one of his tweets, Gervais referenced the reported allegations against Sean "Diddy" Combs regarding pedophilia. He wrote:
"Hello, and welcome to the 82nd Golden Globe awards. What a year it's been. Hundreds of entertainers jumped at the chance to go to The Vatican to meet The Pope. Many from Hollywood. Obviously, they weren't content with only being part of the 2nd biggest pedo ring in the world."
In a few subsequent tweets, Gervais shared some jokes he would have liked to tell at the event, including ones about singer Justin Timberlake and Combs' arrests this year. Regarding Diddy's arrest, Gervais wrote:
"Kevin Hart said that being at one of Diddy’s parties was uncomfortable, as he wouldn’t leave him alone. Eventually he had to shout "Imma Midget, not a child.""
Bad Boy Records founder and rapper Sean "Diddy" Combs was arrested on September 16, 2024, after being charged with three counts of s*x trafficking, racketeering, and transportation to engage in pr*stitution. The music mogul has also been accused of multiple counts of r*pe and s*xual harassment, including allegations involving minors.
Ricky Gervais refers to Justin Timberlake's arrest while listing jokes he would have cracked at 2025 Golden Globes
In another one of his tweets dated January 3, Ricky Gervais touched upon the arrest of singer Justin Timberlake. He was arrested on June 18 at Sag Harbor on Long Island while driving a 2025 gray BMW shortly after midnight.
Speaking about the case, Gervais alluded to Timberlake's 2006 Billboard Hot 100 number 1 hit, SexyBack, and wrote:
"Justin Timberlake was convicted of Drink Driving. If he’d have gone to jail he’d have heard the words “Sexy Back” a lot more often."
According to court documents about Timberlake's arrest, the singer's eyes "were bloodshot and glassy, a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was emanating from his breath, he was unable to divide attention, he was unsteady afoot and performed poorly on all standardized field sobriety tests." The singer was accused of drunk driving after failing to obey a stop sign and drifting out of his lane.
In September, Timberlake pleaded guilty to impaired driving. He was fined $500 with a $260 surcharge. He was legally required to perform 25 hours of community service at a nonprofit of his choosing, as well as make a public safety announcement.
Over the years, Ricky Gervais has been known for cracking jokes that some deem inappropriate. The British comedian hosted the function in 2020 and infamously quipped about Leonardo DiCaprio and his alleged dating preferences. He alluded to the running time of Quentin Tarantino's 2019 directorial, Once Upon A Time in Hollywood, starring DiCaprio and Brad Pitt.
“’Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ was nearly three hours long. Leonardo DiCaprio attended the premier and by the end his date was too old for him. Even Prince Andrew said, ‘come on Leo, you’re nearly 50 son’," Gervais said.
Furthermore, Ricky Gervais notably called out all Hollywood A-listers, urging them to not make any political speech if they win something. He stated:
“If you do win an award tonight, don’t use it as a platform to make a political speech. You’re in no position to lecture the public about anything. You know nothing about the real world. Most of you spent less time in school than Greta Thunberg. So if you win, right? Come up, accept your little award, thank your agent and your God and f*ck off."
Ricky Gervais also cracked a joke about the Los Angeles Times exposé that accused the ceremony of being racist. In the 2020 edition, he quipped that “The Hollywood Foreign Press are all very racist” because they can “barely speak English."
The 2025 Golden Globes were hosted by Nicki Glaser, who also cracked jokes about Sean Diddy Combs' arrest this year.
