UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was recently shot near the New York Hilton hotel on December 4, 2024. According to NBC News, Thompson was injured in the back and the right calf when he was attacked by the gunman from the back, which was even recorded on surveillance footage.

As per the latest update, NYPD obtained a backpack that was reportedly possessed by the suspect involved in shooting the UnitedHealthcare CEO. A report by ABC News on Saturday, December 7, stated that the authorities discovered Monopoly money and a Tommy Hilfiger jacket in the bag, which was initially sent to a forensic lab.

The backpack was reportedly recovered from a pond close to the Bethesda Fountain in Central Park. An investigation is currently being conducted to find the suspect. However, no one has been arrested until now.

Meanwhile, netizens took to the comments section of a post shared by Pop Base on X to share their reactions to the latest report of Monopoly money being found in the suspect's bag. One of them wrote:

NYPD joins hands with FBI to find the suspect who shot the UnitedHealthcare CEO

According to the latest update shared by ABC News on the shooting case investigation, NYPD released a picture of the suspect, who was allegedly spotted inside a cab with his mouth covered by a cloth. On December 7, the NYPD detectives came to Atlanta to conduct a search based on the tips received related to the suspect.

A report by CNN stated that NYPD collaborated with FBI to find the man who shot the UnitedHealthcare CEO and rewards worth $50,000 would be provided to anyone who would help in the search.

The outlet reported that the authorities had found some other evidence, apart from the suspect's photo and backpack. It included video footage of the path from where the suspect escaped, DNA and partial fingerprint from a Starbucks water bottle, a discarded "burner" cell phone, and 9 mm shell casings.

Brian Thompson was on his way to participate in the annual investor conference of UnitedHealthcare when he was shot. The suspect fired multiple times at Thompson when a witness reportedly rushed to help him as he fell to the ground, as per NBC News.

The UnitedHealthcare CEO died on the spot and the motive behind the incident remains a mystery. CNN stated that the suspect left the area in an electric bike. Meanwhile, the authorities are yet to find the gun that was used in the incident.
