26-year-old former Ivy League student Luigi Mangione who has been charged with second-degree murder in connection to Brian Thompson's death, allegedly planned to bomb Manhattan before the fatal shooting of the CEO.

Law enforcement officials had previously revealed that they allegedly found a detailed manifesto that belonged to Luigi, where he had expressed disappointment in the functioning of the American healthcare system. Police reportedly found a spiral notebook with a to-do list in it, as reported by CNN.

The to-do list allegedly included facilitating a murder along with other texts justifying his alleged actions. In the notebook, Luigi allegedly mentioned that he had initial plans of bombing. He apparently changed the plan after realizing that it "could kill innocents." According to the passage, Luigi Mangione apparently then decided to opt for shooting the target.

New York Police Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny further confirmed that while there were no direct threats mentioned in the passage, there were indications of "ill will towards corporate America."

The suspected killer has further been given 14 days by a Pennsylvania court to file for a writ of habeas corpus. His extradition hearing was scheduled to take place on Tuesday, December 10, 2024. Until his extradition to New York happens, Luigi Mangione has been detained at the Blair County Prison in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania.

Luigi Mangione apparently considered Ted Kaczynski's predictions about modern society to be "prescient"

In the notes that law enforcement recovered Luigi had allegedly expressed his displeasure with Brian Thompson's company UnitedHealthcare. The suspected killer apparently wrote:

"This threat to my own health, my family's health, and this country’s people requires me to respond with an act of war."

According to the authorities, he also complimented the ideology of Unabomber Ted Kaczynski. During Luigi's extradition hearing on Tuesday, he shouted and called the proceedings "unjust" and "an insult to the American people."

Meanwhile, Ted Kaczynski's brother, David Kaczynski mentioned that he hoped the suspect didn't consider Ted as a "key model." As per reports by NBC News, published on December 10, David spoke about the same in a phone interview. According to David, Ted's actions could motivate people to act violently. He further said:

"His actions are like a virus. They could be like a virus unless they understand he was a very angry and disturbed man. It doesn't mean his ideas are ideas of a lunatic, but his behavior, I believe, is the behavior of a lunatic."

For those unaware, Ted Kaczynski carried out a bombing spree in Montana in 1996, an act which killed 3 people and injured as many as 23. Detaining him was one of the longest manhunts carried out by the FBI in history. Ted later died by suicide in federal custody last year.

Authorities believed that Luigi possibly admired Ted and even rated his book four out of five stars online.

Despite the authorities' claims of discovering the manifesto and to-do list, Tom Dickey, Luigi Mangione's attorney claimed that there was no solid evidence connecting him to the fatal shooting. The suspect is currently currently being held without a bond.
