The Palisades fire that broke out on January 7 has already engulfed vast areas of land, further leading to the evacuation of thousands of people. Gavin Newsom also declared a state of emergency amid the difficult situation. According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, more than 30,000 had to be evacuated, and over 10,000 houses were impacted by the fire.
Meanwhile, several clips and photos of the massive fire have flooded social media platforms, including X. Amid these, some users posted clips and claimed that they could see strange moving objects over the horrific fire. One user even wondered if they were missiles or UFOs and asked:
"STRANGE FAST MOVING OBJECTS SEEN OVER SOCAL FIRES. People online are observing strange projectiles coming in and out of the #SoCal fires on live TV. Missile? Firework? UFO? Arson? Are we under attack???"
While the user seemed concerned about the reason for the fire, authorities claimed that brushfires seemed to have gone out of control due to strong winds. They have not mentioned anything about missiles, UFOs, or being under attack.
Netizens couldn't stop with their speculations and concerns. Some, however, came up with possible clarifications. A user wrote:
"Multiple Users on X are recording their televisions as they see streaks of something mysterious whizzing through the wildfire smoke. What the hell are those?"
"With 85mph winds it could be anything including pieces of flying burning debris, birds, bats, or swarms of insects. It's odd-looking though," clarified another user.
"Looks like a missile, not a laser," added a tweet.
Several other netizens took to X and commented on seeing "weird" objects in the area. They also questioned why media agencies were covering the same. A user stated:
"Every time I am in that area, there’s always weird stuff in the night sky."
"Why isn't the News Channel acknowledging and questioning it," asked another netizen.
The Palisades fire has caused shutting of roads, abandonment of houses and vehicles
The Palisades fire, which began on Tuesday, has caused massive destruction and chaos across Los Angeles. According to CBS, several buildings were damaged, and reports of burn victims have also been received by authorities.
According to forecasters, the Palisades fire could give rise to situations as bad as it was during the 2011 windstorm, which caused about $40 million in damage in Los Angeles County. As per the outlet, a firefighter sustained a serious head injury while trying to deal with the horrific Palisades fire.
The blaze also led to the shutting down of roadways, including the Southbound Pacific Coast Highway at Las Flores Canyon Rd, Southbound Pacific Coast Highway at Topanga Canyon Boulevard, and Coastline Drive and Southbound Pacific Coast Highway.
Multiple schools, too, were shut down due to the Palisades fire. The list, as updated at 2.51 am PST, included Palisades Charter Elementary School, Canyon Charter Elementary School, Marquez Charter Elementary School, and Paul Revere Charter Middle School.
Many abandoned vehicles were found on the streets. Some car owners revealed that the responding officers suggested they leave the vehicle behind and flee on foot.
