American podcaster and Influencer, Bobbi Althoff revealed her struggles with depression and a suicide attempt at the age of 14 during an appearance on Rainn Wilson’s Soul Boom podcast on December 18. The 27-year-old podcaster, best known for her viral show The Really Good Podcast, discussed her mental health journey and family issues that contributed to her experience.
Bobbi Althoff opened up about feeling out of place as a child and battling low self-esteem. Her internal struggle intensified during her freshman year of high school, a period she described as feeling lost and unsure of her place in the world.
Her home environment further exacerbated her mental health challenges.
"My parents were very toxic together, but they lived in the same house until I was 14," Althoff revealed.
Despite divorcing when she was in fifth grade, her parents continued living under the same roof for six more years. This period of emotional turbulence contributed to Althoff’s deteriorating mental state.

Before Bobbi Althoff attempted suicide by ingesting a large quantity of Tylenol from a Costco-sized bottle, she reflected on her thought process leading up to the attempt, saying she grappled with religious fears. She held off her attempt initially, believing she might "burn in hell forever". Eventually, she came to terms with the decision, writing letters to her parents and classmates before consuming the pills.
"I laid in my bed, and I read my Bible," she recalled. "I was like, 'Please, God, I know I’ve just sinned, but please, I am begging you. That was not fair of you to put me in this world.'"
Her mother later discovered her unconscious in bed, noticing her pale complexion. Her parents rushed her to the hospital after initially attempting to get her to vomit in the bathroom.
On the way to the hospital, Althoff said she felt immense guilt, telling her parents, "I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry." At the hospital, she recalled a discouraging encounter with a doctor who criticized her suicide method. The doctor was like,
"'How you tried to kill yourself was so stupid. That’s just a way to get yourself quadriplegic. It’s not gonna actually kill you,'" she recounted.
After the incident, Bobbi Althoff went to live with her brother for a time. Over the years, she worked on rebuilding her relationship with her parents, though she did not seek professional mental health support until her divorce from ex-husband Cory Althoff earlier this year.
Becoming a mother was a pivotal moment for Althoff’s mental health. She credits her children as the driving force behind her motivation to persevere.
In a conversation with rapper NLE Choppa on The Really Good Podcast, she also revealed that she attempted suicide at 14. When Choppa asked her about that period in her life, she candidly responded, "Oh, I tried to kill myself when I was 14." Choppa, who has also spoken openly about mental health, shared his own experience, responding, "I ain’t gonna judge you, I tried to kill myself before, too."
Bobbi Althoff has become a prominent figure in podcasting, known for her dry wit and viral interviews with celebrities like Drake and Lil Yachty. Her candid approach to conversations allows her to tackle complex issues like mental health in a relatable way.
