The Voice season 23 aired a new episode on Monday, May 22, 2023, at 8 pm ET on NBC. It documented the top finalists participating in a brand new challenge just ahead of the grand finale. They delivered some of their best performances in front of the coaches hoping to impress viewers and gather enough votes to win the coveted title.

On this week's episode of The Voice, Grace West performed The Nights the Light Went Out in Georgia, which was originally recorded by Vicki Lawrence in 1972, and went on to rank No 1 on Billboard Hot 100. It was later covered by country idol Reba McEntire as part of her album in 1991, which ranked No. 12 on Country Idol Songs chart.

Fans, however, pointed out that the coaches only credited Reba in their performance and not Vicki. They slammed the judges for not giving the original singer a shoutout. One tweeted:

The hit NBC series has been successful over the past many years that it has been on air. Many former contestants have gained a lot of exposure through their debut and have gone on to become established artists with sold-out concerts and a massive global fan base.

Vicki Lawrence has had multiple Emmy Award nominations as well as a Golden Globe nomination.

The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia saw multiple cover versions in the coming years, including Tanya Tucker in 1981. However, country idol Reba McEntire's version for her 1991 album For My Broken Heart received widespread acclaim and ranked No. 12 on the Hot Country Songs chart.

Fans slam The Voice mentors for not crediting Vicki Lawrence

Fans instantly took to social media to slam The Voice mentors as they failed to credit the original voice behind the song The Nights the Light Went Out in Georgia. They felt that Blake, Kelly, Niall, and Chance should've mentioned Vicki Lawrence's name as she was the one who recorded the song.

Although Grace sang Reba's version of the song, fans felt it was unfair of them to only credit Reba McEntire as she had recorded the song later on after it was originally released by Vicki. Check it out.
