Jeff Bezos debunked rumors and reports about his supposed plan of spending $600 million on an Aspen wedding with fiancée Lauren Sanchez on Christmas weekend. The news of the lavish affair originated from a December 22 Daily Mail exclusive, citing that Bezos and Sanchez allegedly planned to have a Christmas wedding in secret and that they are reportedly spending $600 million for the event.
The same article claimed to have three sources that confirmed that the wedding will be on December 28 and will allegedly be at Kevin Costner's 160-acre Dunbar Ranch in the famous ski town. Several sites picked up on the story, citing Daily Mail. Bezos' fellow billionaire, Bill Ackman, shared one such report, a now-deleted New York Post article, on X on Sunday, December 22, saying that it was "not credible."
Also on Sunday, Jeff Bezos disputed the wedding price tag reported by reposting Ackman's comment on X, while also seemingly implying that there are no nuptials happening next weekend. He wrote:
"Furthermore, this whole thing is completely false—none of this is happening. The old adage "don't believe everything you read" is even more true today than it ever has been."
The 60-year-old tech CEO and entrepreneur and the news anchor made their relationship public in 2019 after Bezos announced his divorce from his wife, MacKenzie Scott. In May 2023, Bezos and Sanchez got engaged. While the two haven't shared details about their impending nuptials, Lauran Sanchez previously told Extra on September 26 that she was "really excited" to get married.
She also shared with Hello Magazine on November 21 about having a "Pinterest board" for her wedding inspiration like "every other bride." The two don't have a confirmed wedding date yet, but Sanchez reiterated her excitement to "marry the man of [her] dreams."
Jeff Bezos warns people to not be "gullible" amid $600 million Christmas wedding rumors
Elsewhere in his latest post denying the reports of his $600 million Christmas wedding to Lauren Sanchez at Aspen on December 28, Jeff Bezos reflected on lies being shared online. He advises people not to be gullible when reading whatever is written on the internet, saying:
"Now lies can get ALL the way around the world before the ruthless can get its pants on. So be careful out there folks and don't be gullible."
The Washington Post owner also wondered if the outlets that reported the "completely false" story would be issuing a retraction, adding:
"Will be interesting to see if all the outlets that "covered" and re-reported on this issue a correction when it comes and goes and doesn't happen."
Following Jeff Bezos shutting down the lavish nuptial rumors, Ackman responded to his post reminding the tech mogul, as an owner of a newspaper to take necessary steps to ensure that his reporters are getting the facts right. A fellow tech mogul, Elon Musk, also commented on Bezos' post, wishing him to have an "epic wedding," whenever he planned to have one.
Lauren Sanchez also shut down the expensive Christmas wedding rumors via her Instagram Stories on Sunday. She shared a screenshot of the post that Jeff Bezos posted on X and added a screenshot of the New York Post story and wrote, "Not true" on top of it.
