US Vice President Kamala Harris and her running partner Tim Walz got candid during a conversation regarding their campaign. The full conversation is yet to be released on YouTube but the teaser is available on the VP’s channel.

The teaser showed Kamala Harris saying that she had called Walz to tell him he had been picked as her running mate, but he didn’t answer. Sharing the clip on X, the VP wrote that she could not have imagined having a better partner than Walz to lead the campaign.

“I called you, Tim. I called you, Tim. You didn’t answer, Tim,” said Kamala Harris.

The trailer also showed Tim Walz saying it was the most important call in his life. However, since the caller ID was not recognized, it went straight to voicemail. Walz added that it was his privilege to be a part of the excitement that Harris has brought about.

“It is an amazing privilege. I’m excited. I just want to be part of the excitement that you’re generating,” stated Tim Walz.

However, soon after the trailer went viral on X, netizens started sharing their impressions of Walz’s comment. Many users expressed their excitement at seeing the duo working together. Others had mixed opinions, as some suggested reasons why Tim Walz did not pick up the call.

“Probably thought it was Joe calling,” an X user commented.
“He’s just like us! Ignoring calls from unknown numbers!” another X user commented.
“Screened her…classic Walz,” an user wrote.

Few X users appreciated Kamala Harris for selecting Tim Walz as her campaign partner. In this regard, they wrote:

“She did make the right choice,” wrote one netizen.
“The next President and Vice President of the United States of America,” commented one X user.
“How can you not like those two?” one user wrote.

Although many appreciated the chemistry the duo shared, there were a few who voiced their criticisms. They wrote:

“Kamala Harris and Tim Walz are the most fake, vacuous duo we have ever seen on a presidential ticket,” wrote another user.
“Yeah, the chemistry is great, the policies are good, the vibes are hopeful… there’s a landslide incoming,” wrote another user.

Tim Walz aims to protect Social Security

On August 15, Walz shared another conversation segment on his X page. In the clip, Kamala Harris is seen asking Walz about his dad. He said that his father passed away when he was in his late teens. After that, it was his mother who brought him and his brother up.

“I was 19. My little brother was I think 8, 8 or 9 when he passed. After he died, my Mom was a stay-at-home mom. Uh, she became our rock. And now, she had to go out and get work because the medical bills broke her,” Walz said.

He further added:

“And, Social Security and Social Security survivor benefits. We’re fine pulling ourselves by our bootstraps. We had no boots. That’s the boots.”

Walz mentioned the need for programs that are not only important to keep people from going into poverty but also to allow them to live with dignity. He wrote that Social Security allowed his family to lead a dignified life. As they discussed further, Kamala Harris said that there could not be a country and policies that let people fall through the cracks.
