Mattel has teamed up with Nokia to launch their new flip phone, inspired by Barbie. The cellphone reported would have only texting and calling services, and there would be no internet and social media facilities. While the perk of social media apps is missing in this phone, it offers a variety of stickers that users could use as per their choices.

On Wednesday, the cell phone had been officially launched, but currently, it was made available only to UK users at about $130, as confirmed by CNBC. The HMD’s press release further mentioned that the US version of the cell phone would also be launched shortly. @PopBase posted a tweet on the same and wrote,

"It will only have texting and calling, but no internet or social media. It also greets you with a 'Hi Barbie' voice message when turned on."

What caught a lot of netizens' attention about the Barbie phone was the price of $130. Many raised questions about the high price of a phone that wasn't even supposed to have internet facilities. Here are some responses on X,

"Flip phone for 130 dollars is wild," commented another user.
"It’s cute but waste of money ngl," added a post.

While a few netizens questioned the pricing of the flip phone, many loved the product and even claimed that it was a perfect cellphone for children. A netizen tweeted:

"This is the type of phone kids really should be allowed to have if they’re not over a certain age 😭."
"This is perfect for kids actually, you can contact them easily & no unneeded internet exposure," added another user.
"These are the type of phones under 16 kids should have," wrote a netizen.

Everything to know about the new releases Barbie flip phone

As mentioned, the flip phone has already been officially launched for UK users. According to HMD, the phone is supposed to bring back the "joy of simpler, sweeter days." The design of the cellphone has also been made keeping in mind the trends of the early 2000s, making pink shades the primary color. The phone also seemingly abides by the concept of "digital detox" mostly among Gen-Z.

As reported by CNBC, Lars Silberbauer, chief marketing officer for HMD, spoke about the phone on Wednesday, and said,

"In our fast-paced digital world, it can often feel like the online buzz never stops. This phone encourages you to ditch your smartphone in times when you just want less browsing and more fun, all with the help of a true cultural icon, Barbie."

The phone has been launched about a year after the movie Barbie came out. Many netizens believed that the phone would have been an even bigger hit if it came out last year.
