US Vice President Kamala Harris used the phrase "concept of a business" while talking about her tax deduction plan for start-ups alongside Oprah Winfrey in a virtual live-stream from Michigan on Thursday, September 19.
Speaking to Winfrey, Harris said she plans on making a $50,000 tax deduction, and explained:
"A part of my plan is to give start-ups or small businesses a $50,000 tax deduction to start up a small business. Right now it is $5,000 and nobody can start a small business in $5000. That's a concept of a business."
X users were quick to react to Harris' comments, with many appreciating her for the plan in mind. One user said:
"Who said Kamala Harris isn’t good at campaigning? She just zinged Trump."
"Shots fired lol," a fan said.
"For me, starting a small business becomes more of a reality if Kamala is elected and this is put into action. Especially with the decrease with intrest rates," another user opined.
"Dear Donald Trump...Kamala just burned you to a crisp again. Please debate her again. Lord yes, pretty please?," another individual added.
"Oh snap," a fan chimed in.
Other users continued to share their views on Harris' plans.
"She ate that lol," an X user wrote.
"Just get a small loan of a million dollars from your father," a person shared.
"Pay attention you moronic MAGA people she’s got policies. Trump lies to you about promises. He will never keep. He still doesn’t have anything but a concept of a healthcare plan. He doesn’t have to worry about infrastructure because President Biden already took care of that. I’m voting for somebody that actually cares about me and not the billionaires. How about you?," a user elaborated.
"This business plan will rebuild the abandoned downtowns of rural America. MAGA, Kamala is the only candidate that is talking about rebuilding your downtown, revitalizing your community and bringing your kids home from the big city to start a small business," an individual commented.
Kamala Harris speaks to Oprah Winfrey in a star-studded live-stream event from Michigan
On September 19, 2024, Kamala Harris spoke to Oprah Winfrey in a star-studded live-stream session in Michigan. Multiple big names, including Meryl Streep, Bryan Cranston, Tracee Ellis Ross, Julia Roberts, Chris Rock, and Ben Stiller, attended the event virtually to support the Vice President.
During the event, Kamala Harris addressed the Republican stance on abortion and border security and revealed details on how she plans to deal with these issues if she is elected President. The Vice President also directly responded to audience questions, many of whom shared personal incidents.
One member in the audience asked Harris what she plans to do to improve border security, a point that her opponent Donald Trump has been stressing on in his campaign. However, Harris called out Trump for allegedly stopping legistation that could have improved security, and said:
“The bill would have allowed us to have more resources to prosecute transnational criminal organizations. Donald Trump called up his folks and said, ‘Don’t put that bill on the floor for a vote.’ He preferred to run on a problem instead of addressing the problem. And he put his personal political security before border security.”
Kamala Harris also spoke to Shanette Williams, the mother of Georgia's Amber Nicole Thurman during the event. Thurman died in August 2022 due to a hospital delay for abortion complications shortly after Georgia's abortion ban came to play. Thurman's mother blamed Donald Trump for her death, claiming it was preventable.
“You’re looking at a mother who is broken. It’s the worst pain that a parent could ever feel. I want you all to know that Amber was not a statistic. She was loved by a strong family and we would have done whatever to get our baby the help that she needed. Women around the world need to know that this was preventable," Williams said.
Kamala Harris had an empathetic response to Williams, applauding her for her courage. The Democrats led by Harris have promised to overturn national abortion rights in the US that were impacted due to a Supreme Court decision in 2022. She said:
"I'm just so sad. And the courage that you all have shown is extraordinary."
Oprah Winfrey also questioned Harris about her owning a gun, which the host revealed she was unaware of before the Vice President's debate with Donald Trump. Kamala Harris confirmed the same, and remarked:
"If somebody breaks in my house, they’re getting shot. Sorry. Probably shouldn’t have said that. But my staff will deal with that later.”I’m not trying to take everyone’s guns away.”
According to Kamala Harris's campaign representatives, almost 200,000 people signed up to watch the live-stream. The event was watched by around 100,000 people on YouTube.
