Actor Ryan Reynolds took to social media on Monday, July 15, and mourned the death of 10-year-old Bella Brave. The TikTok star died from a combination of rare health issues on Sunday, July 14, after she was placed in a medically induced coma.
Her mother confirmed the news online and several individuals, including the Hollywood actor, paid tribute to her. He took to his Instagram story and shared a post by People as she recalled meeting the youngster in 2023.
"Bella was so funny and so charming. I loved meeting her and I’m so deeply sad to hear this news. She had a razor-sharp wit and took zero s**t from anyone. Particularly me," he said.
Reynolds also extended his deepest condolences to Bella's family and the hospital staff.
"Deepest condolences to her family and the staff at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada] who cared for her in every way possible," he wrote.
Ryan Reynolds and Bella Brave's 2023 hospital encounter
On December 7, 2023, the 10-year-old's mom revealed online that Ryan Reynolds met Bella in the hospital. This was after she had a bowel transplant in August 2023, as per People, and the actor formed a strong bond with her.
A sweet video of their interaction saw Reynolds kneeling beside Bella in her hospital bed. In the clip, the actor asked Bella how was she doing, and she responded by saying she was doing well. Curious about her transplant, he inquired, “And how did it go?” Bella Brave, with a smile, answered, “Good.”
Reynolds, known for his role in Deadpool, had just finished shooting the SickKids Foundation Christmas Sweater Campaign in the hospital and handed Bella a sweater from the shoot.
"I know you’re dying to wear an ugly sweater like that one," he said.

Bella Brave "passed away peacefully" on Sunday, July 14, her mother Kyla Thomson confirmed on social media the following day. Bella died following complications from a lung infection that led to her being placed in a medically induced coma.
In her announcement, Kyla encouraged fans to honor Bella’s memory by keeping her name and bravery in their hearts.
