On January 6, Andrew Tate announced on X that he is planning to run for Prime Minister in the next UK elections. This comes after reports that the police may have seized over £2m from the internet personality and his brother Tristan. Netizens have since reacted to the brothers' latest political ambitions.
While sharing his interest in running for Prime Minister, Andrew Tate discussed Fidias Panayiotou, a Greek Cypriot YouTube personality who gained popularity in European politics after acquiring a seat in the European Union Parliament. Tate said on X:
“The most Googled man in the world, who is British, becoming the PM? After @Fidias0 became a member of EU parliament from his youtube channel. At the time of great awakening and distrust in the political class? Stranger things have happened. I am 100% serious. I am in the next election.”
In the following tweets, the self-proclaimed “top G” began campaigning for himself, saying:
“Top G. The G stands for Government.”
In another tweet, he said:
“BOATS WILL BE LEAVING. NONE WILL BE ARRIVING. PRIME MINISTER TATE.”
Netizens have since taken to social media to respond, with one person commenting:
"Should run from prison first"
Several others were similarly trolling the controversial internet personality. Some online reactions read:
“As leader of what party? Does he understand how first past the post works,” an X user said.
“An Islamist and a pedo?! Brilliant,” a platform user said.
“What? So he can implement sharia law sooner,” another netizen said.
In another tweet, Andrew Tate announced that Shamima Begum would remain “exiled” from the UK. He was referring to the British-born woman who had her citizenship revoked after traveling to Syria and marrying an Islamic State fighter. Begum attempted to regain her citizenship; however, she lost her final appeal. Meanwhile, other reactions read:
“Is that before or after he’s extradited back here to face r*pe charges,” an X user said.
“He should be deported, not elected,” another netizen said.
“LOL…. Now that’s a sledge hammer to the system,” a platform user said.
Despite many being displeased by Tate’s claims, some seemed pleased with his announcement. Some reactions read:
“Go Tater! Best of luck,” an X user said.
“He is the only male who can save the UK,” another platform user said.
“I agree he should run,” a netizen said.
Police can potentially seize Tristan and Andrew Tate’s bank accounts
Devon and Cornwall Police announced that they sought to seize the bank accounts of Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan after they failed to pay taxes on the £21m of revenue generated from their online businesses.
The police aimed to capture funds held not only by the brothers but also by a third associate named J. The Westminster Magistrates’ Court’s chief magistrate stated that their supposed “complex financial matrix” was simply a “straightforward cheat of the revenue.”
The BBC also reported that some of the aforementioned revenue was directly linked to the allegations of human trafficking the siblings faced in Romania. A part of the finances the police plan to seize includes cryptocurrency.
In response, Andrew claimed that he was the victim of “the matrix.” He stated in his official statement:
“It’s a coordinated attack on anyone who dares to challenge the system. Speak against the matrix, and they’ll come for your freedom, your reputation and your livelihood.”
In June, Andrew Tate faced allegations of human trafficking, r*pe, and forming a criminal gang, while Tristan faced allegations of human trafficking as well.
