Former President Donald Trump's wife Melania Trump shared a video on Thursday, in which she backed women's abortion rights. The declaration happened just a few days before the publishing of her much-awaited memoir, which is set to release on October 8, 2024.

Melania's idea of pro-abortion is quite contradictory when it comes to the ideologies of the Republican Party and her spouse former President Trump who praised the Supreme Court for overturning the decision made in Roe v Wade. The former first lady said:

"Individual freedom is a fundamental principle that I safeguard. Without a doubt, there is no room for compromise when it comes to this essential right that all women possess from birth..."

After this declaration, FOX News asked the former President about his take on his wife's stance. To this, he especially highlighted that he asked her "to write what she believed." This caught netizens' attention, who then flooded the social media platforms with their reactions. Here are some popular posts found on X, formerly known as Twitter:

Another netizen wrote:

"Donald only wants to tell *other men's* wives what they can do..."
"Well isn't that lovely? Trump's telling every woman and girl in America what to do with her body and as a consequence women are literally dying. But Melania gets to speak her mind," explained a user.
"Ty for another non answer. 'I'm not going to tell you what to write' is not an answer to the question that was asked," added a tweet.

While some users bashed Trump for his reaction, many netizens claimed the entire pro-abortion stance of Melanie at this time is a campaign stunt. One user tweeted:

"What fool doesn't know this is just campaign strategy intended to soften the blow of JD Vance's stance against women's rights?"
"Smarter people than Donald have figured out that Maga needs to soften its stance on abortion. This is an attempt," declared a netizen.
"Melania doesn't like him 😂," joked another user.

The contradiction between Donald Trump's and his wife Melania's take on reproductive rights has caused debates

As mentioned, Trump's Republican Party had always been "pro-life", while his wife recently declared her support for pro-reproductive rights including abortion rights. The stance and Trump's further reaction to the same paved the way for some debates.

In the Thursday video, posted on her social media feed, the former first lady further stated:

"Restricting a woman’s right to choose whether to terminate an unwanted pregnancy is the same as denying her control over her own body. I have carried this belief with me throughout my entire adult life."

Donald Trump has been seen having different stances on abortion rights, over the years, as confirmed by Aljazeera. He had, however, mostly left it to individual states to decide their stance on the matter.

On Wednesday, The Guardian published some excerpts from her upcoming memoir. In some parts, she even backed abortion in the later stages of pregnancy. This was, however, not the first time that a former first lady from the Republican Party had backed these rights. First Lady Betty Ford had called the judgment in Roe v. Wade, a "great, great ruling" back in 1975.

President Ronald Reagan's wife Nancy also supported women's reproductive rights, after Ronald's tenure was over. As for now, with Melania's statements, it is worth observing how the dynamics change in the upcoming Presidential Elections.
