In March 2023, Marvel actor Jonathan Majors was arrested by the New York Police Department (NYPD) after his former girlfriend choreographer Grace Jabbari accused him of alleged domestic abuse.

Following his arrest, Jonathan Majors appeared before the court multiple times. However, during his June 21 appearance, he pled “not guilty.” Subsequently, his legal team lodged a counter-complaint against Grace Jabbari saying that it was Majors who was the “victim” and was “innocent.”

Furthermore, the Marvel actor’s attorneys accused Jabbari of reportedly assaulting him. They also presented evidence to the NYPD that backed up their claims. While the NYPD “found probable cause to arrest” her, it wasn’t until recently that the warrant for her arrest was released.

On Wednesday, October 25, Grace Jabbari surrendered to the 10th precinct in Manhattan and was questioned for several hours. She did, however, eventually get released despite the cross-complaint. So far, the District Attorney has decided not to prosecute her, although she is being accused of misdemeanor assault and harassment charges, according to the Insider.

The news story immediately sparked intense reactions when it appeared online. In this regard, an X user commented under @PopCrave’s post.

“Karma or what?”: Netizens reacted to Jonathan Majors’ ex-girlfriend’s alleged arrest

According to Grace Jabbari's original complaint, Jonathan Majors was allegedly violent with her on March 24, in the middle of Chinatown, Manhattan, New York City. As a result, she had a broken finger, a cut behind her ear, and bruises.

Jabbari accused Majors of reportedly twisting her arm and shoving her into his car. Grace also claimed that Jonathan allegedly attacked her when she tried to grab his phone as she suspected him of cheating. Just a day following Jabbari's complaint to the NYPD, Jonathan Majors was arrested and charged with assault, attempted assault, harassment, and aggravated harassment.

However, during his June 21 appearance before the court, Majors’ defense team presented evidence in his favor. Since then, anticipation has been high surrounding Grace Jabbari’s alleged arrest.

On October 25, seven months after the incident, she surrendered to the NYPD after an arrest warrant was released in her name. Nevertheless, the DA has not yet brought charges against her in spite of the fact that she is facing counter-charges for misdemeanor assault.

As reported by Variety, charges have not been pressed because Majors' legal team allegedly attempted to influence the NYPD into making a "Wanted" poster for Jabbari by leaking and misrepresenting court records.

Since the news of Grace Jabbari’s reported arrest became viral on social media, netizens have had hilarious reactions. Here are some of them from the comment section of @PopCrave's post on X.

It is noteworthy that Majors accused Jabbari of being “drunk and hysterical” and scratching, hitting, and violently grabbing his face, leading him to bleed. The cross-complaint also states that Jabbari was uninjured in the hours following the dispute (as reportedly evidenced by sidewalk and nightclub CCTVs), and later wounded herself in a “drunken fall” as per Business Insider.

Majors also claimed that Jabbari allegedly stole from him that night, and used his credit card on multiple occasions without permission. The list of stolen items includes an iPhone, a Rolex vintage watch, and a few other luxury items.

Majors also reportedly told the NYPD back in June that Jabbari had assaulted her multiple times before the March incident, and that he had only ever raised his hand in purported self-defense. However, new claims from Majors' legal team claim that the DA's office "buried" the NYPD's investigation into Jabbari's violent behavior towards him, despite Majors' testimonies and video evidence.

Meanwhile, Jonathan Majors’ lawyer, Priya Chaudhry, filed a motion to dismiss his case, which has been declined by the DA’s office. In fact, he will be tried on November 29, as per The Hollywood Reporter.

While Grace Jabbari may not be facing prosecution yet, she may be looking at a defamation lawsuit, as Jonathan Majors incurred image and financial losses following his arrest. While the U.S. Army stopped airing all commercials featuring Majors, Marvel postponed his upcoming film Avengers: Kang Dynasty from May 2025 to May 2026.

For those uninitiated, 33-year-old Jonathan Majors met 30-year-old Grace Jabbari, a British national, on the set of his film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania in 2020, and dated her until March 2023.
