Canadian internet personality and musician Lil Tay recently had a successful open heart surgery, and she is currently recovering from it. On September 14, a video of her lying in the hospital bed was posted on her official Instagram account to announce the news of her surgery. The post's caption read:
“We are overjoyed to share that Tay’s open-heart surgery was a great success! We are deeply thankful to her surgeon, cardiologist and the team who are the best in the world! Thank you for the love, prayers, and positive energy you have all sent her way. Thank you for your continued support… We are off to a great start on the road to recovery."
This news was further shared by other Instagram accounts on the same day. Once the news of her current health issues went viral, her fans took to Instagram to wish Tay a speedy recovery and pray for her health. Some even criticized the accounts for posting the video of the teen musician from the hospital bed and argued that the focus should be on her recovery.
Other fans also shared a similar sentiment and prayed for her speedy recovery.
Lil Tay is recovering from surgery for a heart tumor
Medical reports released on Lil Tay's social media profiles on September 12, 2024, stated that the singer was diagnosed with a heart tumor and had to undergo the necessary medical procedure. The reports, however, did not specify whether the tumor was benign or malignant.
An Instagram post about her diagnosis was captioned, "Tay has been diagnosed with a life threatening heart tumor. We ask kindly for everyone’s love and prayers."
However, a few social media users showed reluctance to accept the news. This was due to the rapper's prior involvement in a death rumor. In August 2023, an Instagram post made from the young singer's Instagram account falsely announced that she and her brother Jason Tian passed away unexpectedly.
Later, Tian and Tay claimed that their father, who was no longer with them, had staged the statement. Her father and manager had declined to comment on the claims of her death.
Tay eventually released a statement in which she confirmed that she and her brother were both okay. Her official Instagram story also released a follow-up message confirming that the news about her death was a fake and she and her mother were not responsible for it.
Instead, it was claimed that her father was the one who, after losing the legal battle over her career and custody, hacked into her Instagram account and staged her death in an attempt to destroy her reputation. The post further read that Lil Tay and her mother "have nothing to do" with her father.
