On Wednesday, January 1, a Tesla Cybertruck exploded in Las Vegas, in which authorities preliminary identified the driver to be Matthew Livelsberger. A family member described Matthew, who had no criminal records, as a "highly-decorated combat veteran." The relative, Dean Livelsberger, who happens to be the suspect's uncle, also claimed that the suspect was a follower of Donald Trump. Dean told CNN:
"When President Trump was in office (Matthew) would comment on his Facebook page about the things President Trump had said or done or how he’s helping the military. Matt had a lot of respect for Mr. Trump – he just loved the guy."
Dean Livelsberger told The Independent that Matthew "was a 100 percent patriot" and also loved the Army. The uncle further said that the suspect was "like a Rambo-type, for lack of a better word."
According to Dean, Matthew Livelsberger's strong love for the nation was what initially motivated him to join the Special Forces. Dean further claimed that while he had heard of the January 1 explosion in Las Vegas, he didn't know that his nephew was the suspect there until news outlets reached out to him.
According to KGET, Las Vegas police are yet to conclude anything about the cause of the incident. They mentioned that Matthew apparently had a gunshot wound in the head and it possibly happened before the explosion.
Matthew Livelsberger's uncle Dean thinks that Matt would have built a more sophisticated explosive
Dean Livelsberger, who is the brother of the suspect Matthew's father, has also served in Vietnam as an Air Force veteran, as mentioned by The Independent. Dean gave detailed insights into his nephew who was driving the Tesla Cybertruck which exploded on New Year's day.
Dean told The Independent that he initially thought that the explosion happened due to "one of those big lithium batteries that short-circuited or something." Dean added that he was a little skeptical upon learning the details about the amateurish nature of the explosives.
According to Dean, if Matthew had done it in the first place, he would done a better job at building the explosives and come up with a more sophisticated one. Calling Matthew Livelsberger a "supersoldier", Dean said:
"Matt was a very skilled warrior, and he would be able to make — if it was him, and if he did this — he would’ve been able to make a more sophisticated explosive than using propane tanks and camping fuel."
The uncle further claimed that Matt had the skills to build an explosive that would damage half of the hotel if he really intended to cause harm to people. The suspect was reportedly in the US Army for 19 years, 18 out of which he was a part of the Special Forces.
The bombing, whose investigation is ongoing, injured seven people and killed Matthew Livelsberger.
