Several videos on TikTok emerged around August 17 where some Taylor Swift fans voiced their endorsement for Donald Trump in the 2024 Presidential election. As they called the movement ‘Swifties for Trump’, the phrase began trending across TikTok and X through multiple reposts.
In one of the clips, one Swiftie was lip-syncing to Cruel Summer in her car, while a subtext on the video read “Voting Trump 2024!” Another clip shows a second individual expressing surprise at Swifties supporting the former President. She reasoned Swifties must have finally realized that Trump's presence in the White House could have prevented all these issues.
A third clip featured another Swiftie wearing a sweatshirt with Taylor's photos collaged and a "Make America Great Again" pink hat. The subtext on the video read:
"Where are all my TRUMP SUPPORTING SWIFTIES at?"
A picture of another supposed fan of the Willow hitmaker wearing a white t-shirt with 'Swifties for Trump' written on it was circulated online. These posts created an uproar among other Swifties.
Many pointed out Taylor did not openly speak about who she was voting for this election season. Some others highlighted her political inclinations which was far from being a Trump supporter, and rather the opposite. One X user wrote Taylor Swift would rather hate those endorsing Trump.
"The way taylor wouldn’t even like them", said another person.
"Wait, someone makes a random video claiming that “Swifties” are “rallying” for Trump, without evidence. And we just take her word for it?", one X user wrote.
"LOL Taylor Swift campaigns for Kamala, her fans campaign for Trump", commented another.
"There’s nothing funnier than watching you guys try to get ahead of Swift’s endorsement of Harris with astroturfed “Swifties for Trump” nonsense. The desperation is palpable", chided one fan.
A few others, however, encouraged the women whose 'Swifties for Trump' posts went viral and asked them to keep up with their support.
"That’s the spirit!", exclaimed one.
"The more, the better, and it's really about saving this country", wrote another.
"We need to keep this going. Swifties should realize that Trump is best for the country", commented a parody account for Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene.
Taylor Swift has not openly endorsed Donald Trump for 2024 Presidential run
In one of the videos that went viral, one person, who is likely not a Taylor Swift fan, shared what could be the reason behind Swifties supporting Trump and eventually cheered for them. She said it was not on her "2024 Bingo card", adding:
"The Swifties are waking up…I never thought I’d see the day that Swifties were rallying for Trump."
Referring to the recent threats of terror attacks at Swift’s Vienna concert which was ultimately canceled, the fan continued:
"I guess something with ISIS happened, there’s a lot of terrorism going on. I guess she had to shut down some shows because of it. And a lot of them are just saying…if Trump was in Office, this would have never ever happened. She would be safe. There wouldn’t be terrorism or wars going on. Because we’d had world peace before and he’ll do it again. So, they’re finally realizing it’s not about race or gender…it’s about our safety, and policies, and a secure border."
She added it was "wild" to see Swifties finally waking up, expressing she was "so proud".
Though Taylor Swift hasn't commented on Kamala Harris' presidential run this year, she did express support in 2020 when Harris was picked as Vice President. Swift has also advocated for causes like gun control and LGBTQIA+ rights, which often clash with the views of Trump's Republican party. In 2018, she publicly supported Democratic Senate candidates Jim Cooper and Phil Bredesen.
Taylor Swift simultaneously showcased her disapproval of the Republican Representative Marsha Blackburn highlighting:
"Her voting record in Congress appalls and terrifies me. She voted against equal pay for women. She voted against the Re-authorization of the Violence Against Women Act, which attempts to protect women from domestic violence, stalking, and date r*pe."
Taylor also added how Marsha was against LGBTQ+ people's rights which did not align with her "Tennessee values".
The singer openly criticized Donald Trump in 2020 during the 'Black Lives Matter' protests. She addressed Trump on her X post:
"After stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism your entire presidency, you have the nerve to feign moral superiority before threatening violence? ‘When the looting starts the shooting starts’??? We will vote you out in November."
Taylor Swift has called Trump out several times after that regarding different issues, and called his leadership "ineffective."
