Howard Stern recently appeared on the SiriusXM show to comment on the viral Hawk Tuah girl internet trend. Stern admitted to not being the biggest fan of the trend. He said in a light-hearted manner:

“As a dad myself of three girls, that’s every father’s worst nightmare to see her on Instagram going, ‘yeah you’ve got to hawk tuah on that f**king thing.’”

The 70-year-old added that he watched the video of the Hawk Tuah girl, whose real name is Hailey Welch, on Instagram despite not using the social media application much. Stern said:

“I’m on Instagram not much, but that hawk tuah girl is everywhere.”

Meanwhile, Hailey Welch has become an overnight sensation and has also launched her own merchandise.

“The girl is so uninhibited”- Howard Stern opines on the viral Hawk Tuah social media trend

While addressing the viral video and why netizens loved it so much, Stern shared that Welch’s natural demeanor likely caused her to garner a fan following online. He said:

“I think if I am analyzing it, the reason people like it so much is the girl is so uninhibited, and it’s just so natural when she says it. It’s like she didn’t even think about- ‘My kid is Insta famous she’s the hawk tuah girl.’”

Howard Stern was referring to what Welch’s father was likely feeling over her going viral for the explicit content. As the girl behind the video became a social media sensation, several memes of how her father must be feeling over her stardom appeared online. One of the many read:

As Hailey Welch is likely enjoying the online attention; she also took to releasing her own merchandise. While partnering with Tennessee-based hat company Fathead Threads, she decided to sell her own Hawk Tuah 24 merchandise, which includes signed and unsigned baseball caps.

While confirming that the merchandise is certainly the idea of Welch herself, Jason Poteete from Fathead Threads confirmed on Facebook:

“I have been authorized to sell these hats after a conversation with Hailey. She will be receiving a portion of the profits from sales.”

Hats signed by Welch herself are being sold for $43.70, while the unsigned versions are being sold for $32.70. Other merchandise is also being sold for between $40 and $50.

For those uninitiated, the trend began after YouTubers Tim and Dee TV uploaded a street interview video on June 11 on social media. In the video, a woman, who has now been identified as Hailey Welch, and her friend were asked, “What’s one move in bed that makes a man go crazy every time?” In response, Welch stated:

“Oh you have for to give it that ‘hawk tuah’ and spit on that thang, you get me?”

Not only is Welch now selling her own merchandise, but people are also getting the phrase permanently tattooed.
