Social media erupted this week as Maye Musk, renowned model and the mother of Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, tweeted about the early voting in New York City, stating that no I.D. was required.
On October 30, 2024, Maye Musk took to her X account to share a video alleging that some "illegal" voters had bypassed the line, causing disruptions at a voting site. Maye captioned the post, suggesting there is no requirement to present identification to vote in New York.
The tweet has quickly gained widespread attention, sparking debates across the internet, with many users on X calling the situation “insane” and raising questions about voter security and verification procedures —
"That's insane," one wrote.
"Really wrong," one more commented.
Many users on X described the situation as "voter fraud" and deemed it "bizarre," with several calling for changes to the current voting protocols —
"Direct evidence of voter fraud. Those responsible should be prosecuted to fullest extent of the law," one commented.
"This is unconscionable. It is very clear what they're doing," a second wrote.
"It’s bizarre how people don’t need an I.D. to vote to determine the fate of an entire country but they need an I.D. to buy alcohol, drive a car, fish, and hunt. Seems kinda unfair tbh," a netizen commented.
"Something is GOING to CHANGE!," one more commented.
However, some users on X supported Maye Musk's statement, affirming that in New York, no identification is required to vote. Others shared their own experiences, noting that in states like Illinois and Wisconsin, voters are asked to present I.D. —
"Yes!! This is a common issue. New York also gave illegal aliens driver's licenses without properly vetting their home country's I.D.s. Many of these people are believed to be added to the voter rolls as well," one commented.
"In Wisconsin, they did ask for our I.D.s and I was very happy to oblige," another commented.
"Same in I.L. They did check for a signature match," a third netizen commented.
The reactions underscore a growing national conversation about voting laws and the importance of transparency in the electoral process. However, neither Elon Musk nor Maye Musk has responded to the reactions online as of now.
Maye Musk sparks debate over New York’s no-ID early voting policy
On Wednesday, Elon Musk's mother, Maye Musk, took to her X account and claimed about the early voting policy in New York.
"At early voting in NYC today, no I.D. required. They actually won’t even look at your I.D.," Maye wrote.
This is not the first time Maye Musk has addressed U.S. voting policies. On October 5, 2024, she posted on her X account, alleging that the Democratic Party, led by Kamala Harris, introduced an option allowing voters to cast multiple ballots — up to ten — under a single I.D. She further claimed that registration to vote is not required —
"The Democrats have given us another option. You don’t have to register to vote. On Election Day, have 10 fake names, go to 10 polling booths and vote 10 times. That’s 100 votes, and it’s not illegal. Maybe we should work the system too," Maye wrote.
As of now, Maye Musk has not responded to her tweet nor confirmed whether it was intended as sarcasm. The United States presidential election is scheduled for Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
