As Chris Rock appeared on the recent episode of Saturday Night Live, the comedian cracked a joke on the recent UnitedHealthcare CEO killing, which left social media users sharing mixed reactions. Cracking jokes on the alleged killer, Mangione, Chris Rock said:
“I really feel sorry for the family. I mean everybody’s fixated on how good looking this guy looks. If he looked like Jonah Hill, nobody would care. They would have already given him the chair and he’d be dead.”
He continued:
“He actually killed a family, a man with kids. I have condolences for the healthcare CEO. This is a real person, but sometimes drug dealers get shot. You seen The Wire, right?”
As soon as Chris Rock’s monologue clip started floating on social media, several comments began pouring in. An X user, @PopCrave posted the same on X, and another user reacted by stating:
“That slap woke him tf up and led us to this spill.”
Furthermore, several others also brought in the 2022 Oscars slap incident and said:
“Chris steady spilling is what led to that slap,” wrote an X user on the post.
“That slap got him thinking straight,” added another social media user.
“This is one wild comparison,” claimed another.
On the other hand, there were a few who justified the comedian stating that it was just a joke.
“Still the funniest man on this planet,” commented a netizen.
“It’s a joke! It’s crazy how much people want to censor other people. No person in the United States or America should be cancelled or censored for their thoughts or speech. There are laws in every state and federally that cover legitimate threats to people’s lives. Outside of illegal speech, nothing should be censored even if it is something people hate or don’t want to hear,” added another user.
Chris Rock’s “drug dealer” joke on SNL came in just a day after the alleged suspect hired a high profile lawyer to represent him
A week after Luigi Mangione was arrested for allegedly shooting and killing the UnitedHealthcare CEO, Thompson, many publications like Complex reported that Mangione hired a high profile lawyer, Karen Friedman Agniflo to represent him. It is worth noting that Karen is the wife of Marc Agnifilo, the lawyer representing Sean Combs.
Furthermore, in his belongings, the police even discovered a manifesto, where Mangione had criticized UnitedHealthcare, and wrote:
“My tech is pretty locked down because I work in engineering so probably not much info there. I do apologize for any strife of traumas but it had to be done. Frankly, these parasites simply had it coming. A reminder: the US has the #1 most expensive healthcare system in the world, yet we rank roughly #42 in life expectancy.”
The news about Mangione’s new lawyer came in just before Chris Rock cracked the joke about the alleged shooting on Saturday Night Live. While social media users continue to react to the joke, at the moment, Chris Rock has not responded to the reactions of the masses.
For the unversed, Luigi Mangione was arrested days after Brian Thompson was shot and killed on December 4, 2024, outside a hotel in Manhattan, where the conference of his company was being held.
After the arrest, police charged Mangione with the alleged murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. He faces additional charges for possessing a loaded firearm, forged IDs, and a U.S. passport.
