Singer and rapper Jhene Aiko has called out negative comments after she revealed she lost her home in the Palisades fire. On Thursday, January 9, 2024, the artist took to her Instagram comments to respond to the criticism, writing:

"The fact some of you think I have Paris Hilton money is wild. I don't got it like that, but I do have a big, loving family that is worth more than anything."

Aiko's remarks come after she shared in an Instagram post on Thursday morning that her home burned down in the Los Angeles wildfires. While several followers commented with heartfelt messages, there were others who began trolling her, claiming it is easy for her to rebuild because she is wealthy.

Los Angeles and its neighboring cities have been engulfed in wildfires since Tuesday, January 7, 2025. The disaster was fueled by high winds (100 mph), and by nightfall, it spread over 2,900 acres. Furthermore, reports from Thursday saw new fires in San Fernando Valley and Ventura County.

"Let suffering be a gift; a lesson in compassion": Jhene Aiko's message amid the L.A. fires

On Thursday morning, Jhene Aiko took to her Instagram Stories to show a picture of her home engulfed in flames taken from the street. As per TMZ, she wrote along with the image:

"My perfect little Pali dream. Sorry we couldn't save you. Thank you for the memories and thank God no one was inside. Praying for our neighbors and the whole wide world."

Aiko continued to express her sorrow for those who lost their homes, livelihoods, and lives. She also prayed for the wildlife and pets who were lost to the fires, adding in her January 9 post:

"Let suffering be a gift; a lesson in compassion."

In her Instagram post, she also stated that her heart was heavy and that she and her family needed to start from scratch.

Meanwhile, in her response to the negative comments, Jhene Aiko recalled when she was in the second grade and her home burned down. At the time, she faced "mean" comments from her peers because they thought her family was "rich," and she reasoned that it was because they had "love."

"My family and our friends came together and made sure my mom and me and my siblings had atleast 1 new sweat suit and 1 pair of shoes the very next day."

She further noted that she was "fortunate" to be in a better financial situation now as compared to back then. According to TMZ on January 9, in a separate comment, Jhene Aiko noted she worked "very hard" and went through "a lot of pain" to provide her children with the house.

Aiko shares a daughter with R&B singer O'Ryan and a son with her current partner, Big Sean. Meanwhile, the latter has not commented on the recent development.

In other news, Jhene Aiko is not the only celebrity to have lost her home in the L.A. fires. Paris Hilton, Anna Faris, Adam Brody and Leighton Meester, Billy Crystal, John Goodman, Eugene Levy, Jeff Bridges, and Mandy Moore are among the others who have lost their properties.

According to The Guardian, around 10,000 structures have been burned down, and over 180,000 people have been evacuated. Additionally, at least ten people have been killed in the ensuing disaster. Furthermore, the burnt area currently covers more than 30,000 acres.
