On September 11, 2024, Taylor Swift endorsed Kamala Harris and Tim Walz for president and vice president minutes after the presidential debate telecast on ABC News.
“I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election. I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos,” Swift wrote in an Instagram post.
Moments after Swift's endorsement, Harris-Walz friendship bracelets hit the internet for pre-order on the OfficialTeamKamala X account with the caption, “Are you ready for it? Harris-Walz friendship bracelets have hit the store! Pre-order yours now.” Later, Harris reposted the tweet to her account.
The waterproof, clay-beaded bracelets will be sold from September 24, 2024, for $20.
Netizens have since taken to the internet to react to how Harris's campaign had prepared the bracelets to be sold right after Swift's endorsement.
“She knows what she was doing,” an X user said.
“She really does have America at the palm of her hand,” another platform user commented.
Many were impressed by how the bracelets went for pre-order moments after Swift endorsed Kamala Harris. Many called it a “PR move.”
“Interesting how Kamala and Taylor’s PR teams planned this. Impeccable timing and everybody (almost) wins…,” an X user said.
“Props to the marketing & PR teams. The timing on all this is incredible,” another platform user commented.
“The devil is quick, but Kamala is quicker,” another netizen commented.
Other reactions to the friendship bracelet-drop read:
“Kamala’s team is working fast,” another X user said.
“Ngl that’s a pretty good “merch” / campaign fundraising idea lmao,” a platform user said.
Kamala Harris’ campaign uses Taylor Swift’s songs while campaigning following endorsement
After Taylor Swift took to the internet to announce her endorsement, Kamala Harris and her husband, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, appeared at the official campaign debate watch party. As they walked off the stage, Taylor Swift’s The Man song played in the background. This moment went viral on the internet.
Harris's campaign also took to social media to react to Taylor Swift’s endorsement by tweeting “Ready for it,” in reference to the latter’s hit track.
Tim Walz also said in an interview with MSNBC that he was “incredibly grateful” to Taylor Swift following her endorsement. He called her his “fellow cat owner” and added:
“That was eloquent and that was clear and that’s the type of courage we need in America to stand up.”
It does not come as a surprise to Swifties that Swift endorsed Kamala Harris. She publicly supported Democratic candidates back in 2018 and endorsed Joe Biden in 2020.
Swift’s fanbase had also already begun supporting Harris by creating the Kamala Coalition, which raised over $138,000 for the Democratic candidate.
