Internet personality Katie Santry sparked social media buzz after finding a rug buried in her backyard. She shared a series of videos, revealing that law enforcement got involved.

On September 29, Katie posted a 29-part TikTok series claiming her house might be haunted. In a video with over five million views, she mentioned her cracked computer screen and moved desk items, despite no one entering the room, possibly linking it to the buried rug.

Following her followers’ and friends’ advice, Katie Santry proceeded to have the rug investigated by the Columbus Police Department. She said in one of her videos:

“The detectives have arrived, some of them are in suits. They’ve got bags, backpacks, equipment. They’re here.”

An excavator was called to dig up the rug, but police said they couldn't provide more resources and told Santry to continue digging herself. She could call them if anything was found. Santry also contacted the realtor to reach the home's original owners for information about the rug, but the realtor couldn't offer much, and the homicide department got involved in investigating the area.

On October 3, she shared that the house was taped off by law enforcement, who could not find anything. In a TikTok video, Katie Santry said:

“What did they find? No, they didn’t find a body, they found a mother effing rug with some rubber.”

As per WBNS, the police conducted a test to find human or animal remains. However, they did not find either.

Netizens have since taken to social media to react to Santry’s rug debacle. One netizen stated:

The internet user was correct, as Katie and her sister Karleigh Santry created their own fan website called jonasbrothersfan.com which was immensely active by fans in 2017.

Several netizens took to the internet to share their own speculations about what could have been buried with the rug. Some comments read:

“5 bucks says it’s a deceased pet,” an X user said.
“I’m betting it’s a dead pet,” another platform user said.
“Some people Halloween harder than others,” a netizen commented.

Internet users continued to express interest over her series, with some also seemingly ridiculing her online. Comments read:

“I have her TikTok on refresh. I need to know,” a netizen said.
“The Netflix movie on this would go so hard if it wasn’t being made by Netflix,” another internet user said.
“This is far better than reality tv,” an X user said.

Law enforcement claimed that the case was closed on October 4 with further testing into the uncovered rug being stopped. Meanwhile, other reactions read:

“I cannot express enough how much I hate TikTok and what it did to mankind,” an X user said.
“I think I’ve read way too many murder mysteries because I immediate suspect her. It’s the “whomever smelt it, dealt it” theory,” a netizen said.

More about Katie Santry’s residence as rug case goes viral online

Katie Santry had amassed over 40,000 followers on Instagram at the time of writing this article with over two million followers on TikTok, garnering internet fame with her “What’s In the Rug” TikTok series.

The 32-year-old managed to track down the daughters of the original homeowners, who revealed that the home was built in 1967 with only one family living in the house before them. The sisters reportedly owned dogs; however, none of them were buried as netizens predicted but were cremated in reality.

In a video that was uploaded online following the police’s investigation, where nothing was found, Katie Santry claimed that the entire experience was wild. She said in a video that was uploaded on October 4:

“This has been the most absurd, insane experiences of my life.”

Katie Santry also addressed the haunted house speculations in an interview with Today. Santry stated that her family would look into finding “some resolution to that,” which can included speaking to a psychic.

Following the police’s investigation, they simply refilled the pit, with no further investigation being underway.
