"The only logical winner": American Idol fans believe William Tongi should be crowned the season 21 winner

Popular reality competition series American Idol season 21 aired a brand new episode on Sunday, May 21, 2023, at 8 pm ET on ABC. It documented the top 3 finalists competing against each other for one last time. They gave it their all to impress the judges and a live audience, as well as viewers back home, to earn the coveted title and a grand cash prize of $250,000.

On the season finale episode of American Idol, finalist Iam Tongi impressed viewers with his performance. Even before the same, fans took to social media to vote for him. If the Twitter votes are anything to go by, it is highly likely that he might win the season. One tweeted:

The hit ABC series has received a fair share of love and criticism over the past two decades that it has been on air. Many contestants who made their debut on stage have gone on to become established artists with a massive fan base.

Season 21 of the competition saw the contestants perform in front of the legendary judge trio - pop princess Katy Perry, Oscar-winning singer/songwriter Lionel Richie, and country superstar Luke Bryan.


Iam Tongi stuns viewers with his performance on American Idol

Tonight's episode of American Idol saw the top 3 contestants - Megan Danielle, Iam Tongi, and Colin Stough - prepare for their final performances ahead of the series, crowning one of them with the title. They had to deliver their best skills in order to receive enough votes from fans. Viewers, for their part, had already begun voting for their favorites.

The official synopsis of the episode, titled Season Finale, read:

"The live coast-to-coast, three-hour season finale features special performances from music legends and today’s top artists, with the Top 3 contestants taking the stage for the final time as America decides who will become the next American Idol."

According to the fan votes and chatter on Twitter, it is highly likely that Iam Tongi might take the win for American Idol season 21. Even before his performance, his loyal fans took to social media and urged other viewers to vote for him.

The finale night was opened by the iconic rapper Pitbull and Lil John, who energized everyone with the song Jumping. They were joined by the Top 12 contestants of this season - Wé Ani, Warren Peay, Haven Madison, Tyson Venegas, Marybeth Byrd, Oliver Steele, Zachariah Smith, Lucy Love, and Nutsa, and the finalists.

Iam Tongi was the second finalist performance after Megan Danielle. Ahead of the same, he was guided by the guest mentor for the finale - former American Idol judge Keith Urban. The contestant revealed that his late father was a big fan of the guest mentor and that his mother wanted to meet him.

For his final performance on American Idol, Iam sang Making Memories of Us by Keith Urban. He mesmerized the audience with his notes and vocal ranges and could deliver the emotion behind the song successfully. Not only did he receive a standing ovation from the judges, but he was also applauded and cheered on by the audience.

Katy Perry expressed that she had to grab a tissue as every time Iam sang, he made them feel the emotion. Luke Bryan noted that the contestant had a natural gift from God and that it was his favorite performance of the year. Lionel Richie applauded the singer for being an incredible storyteller.

Fans took to social media to not only applaud Iam for his performance but also believed that he might take the win for the season.


Season 21 of the series has been an extremely interesting installment to watch. It saw contestants from all walks of life share their journeys with viewers while also delivering iconic performances. With the show being renewed for a brand new season, viewers will have to wait for more to come.
