Donald Trump has once again taken the internet by storm with comments about the water supply in California, in a press conference in Los Angeles on September 13.
Addressing the crowd at one of his privately-owned golf clubs, the former President said he would ensure California gets "more water than almost anybody has" if he is re-elected President. He blamed California's lack of water supply on protective measures for delta smelt, a small endangered fish species.
Trump claimed that the state of California is in a mess and he would do everything to solve their water crises, adding:
"I’m here today in California with a very simple message for the American people: We cannot allow comrade Kamala Harris and the communist left to do to America what they did to California. The state of California is a mess, with people leaving, and nothing’s gonna stop them."
Trump continued:
"You’re not going to have the problems that you have right now. We’re going to lower your taxes. But with this group, everything is dead. The water coming here is dead.”
Netizens took to X to react to the Republican nominee's comments, with many mocking him for his intentions. One X user wrote:
"I live in California. The only thing that's dead is his brain."
"What is he talking about??? Water bad. It smells. Illegals. Haitians and cats. Illegals. Not giving your state any money so you all burn to death. Illegals. Pacific Ocean. Water for everyone. Vote for me,” a user commented.
"So why didn’t he get California an abundance of water when he was president?" a netizen questioned.
"What the actual f**k is this old lunatic trying to say, he is stringing together talking points I guess but lordy someone get the net," another individual opined.
Users continued to share their thoughts on Trump's speech:
"I thought he said we should just “rake” the forests? FFS He is an absolute moron!" an individual commented.
"This man is lying so much especially about water. But there’s a few who might believe his deception enough to vote for him. Especially the farmers up North and a few self haters," a person shared.
"Lol! He has no clue about California. None." another user mentioned.
Donald Trump threatens to withhold California wildfire aid if Governor does not change water policy
In his September 13 press conference in Los Angeles, Donald Trump threatened to withhold federal aid to help with California wildfires if Governor Gavin Newsom does not change the water policy of the State.
The MAGA leader blamed California's reduced access to water on protective measures for an endangered species of fish, the delta smelt. He also claimed that Governor Gavin Newsom rejected his efforts to decrease protective measures for the delta smelt during his previous term. Trump said:
“You have so much water, and all those fields that are right now barren, the farmers would have all the water they needed. And you could revert water up into the hills, where you have all the dead forests, where the forests are so brittle."
The former President added:
"The land would be damp, and you’d stop many of these horrible fires that are costing billions and billions of dollars by the federal government."
The Republican nominee claimed that it would only take a faucet to stop California's water from going “aimlessly into the Pacific” to help save the endangered delta smelt fishes. He promised that if he is elected President, he will ensure the water is sent to farmers and other communities.
“Vote for me, California. I’m going to give you safety, I’m going to give you a great border, and I’m going to give you more water than almost anybody has. You’re going to have more water than you ever saw. And the smelt is not making it anyway."
The former President claimed the water in California will be in levels never seen before, and farmers will prosper. He further threatened to stop federal aid if his demands are not met, adding:
“We won’t give him money to put out all his fires. And if we don’t give him the money to put out his fires, he’s got problems.”
California is the home state of Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, where Trump lost by around 30 percent votes in both the 2016 and 2020 Presidential elections. However, Trump claimed that the votes were counted in a dishonest manner in the Golden State.
