Rock band Lovejoy released their latest song, I’ll Look Good When I’m Sober, on August 9, 2024, in the midst of the Australian leg of their tour. However, internet users were not thrilled by them releasing a new track, particularly after band member Wilbur Soot was accused of physical abuse.

The band dropped the visualizer for the track, which displayed a CD of the band’s song. Lyrics from the track the band’s:

“Tell me what does your heart say would you listen anyway/ I promise you I’ll look good when I’m sober/ Tell me what have you got, now you gave it all away/ I promise you I’ll look good when I’m sober.”

The song had amassed nearly 40K views on YouTube at the time of writing this article.

Internet users have since expressed discontentment on X, especially after the band’s singer Wilbur Soot faced abuse allegations from his now ex-girlfriend Shelby Shubble in February. Soot was accused of aggressively biting Shubble multiple times, despite her pleading not to.

One netizen wrote online:

Others also stated that it was insensitive of the band to release music as if Soot were not receiving immense backlash online. Comments read:

“I can’t even properly express my feelings of disappointment and anger at their audacity to continue to produce music. There are a great many talented people in this world you can support that don’t have a history of abusing women. Will Gold is an abuser and nothing else,” a netizen said.
“We won’t be streaming,” another X user said.
“Oh I forgot to unfollow them on Twitter,” a platform user stated.

Wilbur Soot addressed Shubble’s allegations just days after she made them online. He stated that he began therapy “to address” his “behaviours” and that he has realized “how much my past behaviour hurt this person.” Not many were pleased with the apology.

Meanwhile, other reactions to Lovejoy’s music release read:

“I thought I unfollowed already,” an X user said.
“You’ll look good once you’re in prison, Wilbur,” a platform user commented.
“You’ll look good when you give up and stop abusing women and even then you’ll still look questionable,” another netizen said.

After Lovejoy's Wilbur Soot addressed and seemingly apologized after Shubble came forward with the allegations, the latter claimed that she did not accept his apology as she did not understand his version of events. Meanwhile, other reactions read:

“this was a nice reminder to unfollow you thank you xx,” a netizen said.
“Go support musicians who aren’t abusers,” another platform user said.
“sorry guys, not supporting abusers! Support the victims and not the abusers,” an X user said.
