Following Donald Trump's victory in the 2024 United States presidential election, social media erupted in a storm of criticism after a professor's tweet claimed that "educated people vote blue," sparking a fierce debate about elitism, political polarization, and the broader culture wars in America.

On November 6, 2024, a PhD professor in English, Sueanna Smith, penned a tweet on X suggesting that educated people tend to vote for the Democratic Party (blue), while the "uneducated" population is seen as hindering progress.

"There is a reason why educated people vote blue. What we're seeing is the uneducated population of America holding the rest of the country hostage. This is why there's such a push to weaken education, ban books, and outlaw the teaching of Black history by the Republican Party," Smith wrote.

Subsequently, many users on X poured in reactions and theories suggesting that elitist attitudes toward people who make the "right" voting choices eventually drive people to support Trump.

"And this elitist blather is exactly why people vote for Trump," one commented.
"This post is exactly why it's the way it is," another wrote.

Many users on X criticized the professor, suggesting she equates education solely with a formal degree, a perspective many found misguided. Numerous commenters highlighted examples like Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Edison, who made groundbreaking contributions to the world without formal degrees.

"It's astonishing that you equate education solely with advanced degrees... Figures like Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Edison, both largely self-taught, made groundbreaking contributions without university degrees...," one wrote on X.
"Intelligence>education. You vote "blue no matter who" because of indoctrination, not education, and definitely not because of intelligence. Cope harder 😘," a netizen wrote.
"Degrees don't equal intelligence. You are living proof of this, slimy liar," another commented.

Another netizen commented:

"Im in tech and at LEAST 40% of the people I work with on a daily basis. Project managers, front and back end developers, are republicans. This is just not true."

Some users on X described the tweet as the most embarrassing they had ever read, while others suggested it reflected what they considered to be the tone of an alleged fascist.

"Can't think of a more embarrassing tweet tonight," one user on X.
"THIS, ladies and gentlemen, is what a genuine fascist sounds like," another commented.
"Remember when the Democrats used to be the party of the working class? Now they are the party of rich, white snobs," a netizen commented.

According to the South Carolina website, professor Sueanna Smith completed her Ph.D. at the University of South Carolina in 2021. She currently teaches in the same university's English Language and Literature Department of the College of Arts and Sciences.

However, neither the professor nor Trump's team has responded to the reactions online.
