On Wednesday, December 4, Brian Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealthcare Group, passed away following a shooting incident in New York, outside the Hilton Midtown Hotel. After news of Thompson's death went viral, several netizens explored his LinkedIn profile, where one user discovered his last post before his death.

In his post, Thompson talked about his company's efforts to make healthcare more affordable, including reducing the cost of prescription drugs.

An X user named @GayBearRes shared screenshots of Brian's last post along with several comments made below it, captioning the post:

"His final LinkedIn post. The responses are, well…oof."

One comment on Brian Thompson's LinkedIn post came from Beatrice Siaw, which read:

"This message is a example of hypocrisy at its finest. You are denying claims for people who need it."

Other comments also talked about the shortcomings of UnitedHealthcare Group in offering customers the information and attention they need. The post was uploaded by Thompson a year ago.

New clues emerging in Brian Thompson's murder investigation

The online discussion about Brian Thompson's last LinkedIn post comes after new clues emerged in the ongoing investigation into his death. On Thursday, December 5, two law enforcement officers told AP News that the ammunition found at the crime scene had a message scrawled on it, allegedly with a permanent marker.

Some of the words recognized by the officers included "deny" and "defend," which happen to be a phrase Delay, Depose, Deny, commonly used by the insurance industry critics. "Depose" was written on a shell casing from a round that was fired into Thompson, while "deny" was written on the live round that was ejected when the shooter appeared to be clearing a jam in his weapon.

Investigators handling Thompson's case believe that the gunman who shot him may have traveled to New York from Atlanta last month on a bus, per media outlet.

Another source following the investigation told CNN that Thompson's company was aware of some concerning threats made against its high-level executives.

Both police officers and federal agents have been collecting information from Greyhound to identify a suspect. They have also released new photos of the suspect who is wanted for questioning in connection with Brian Thompson's killing.

The 50-year-old CEO was killed in Manhattan while visiting to attend an investor conference scheduled to take place at Hilton Midtown on Wednesday evening.

Brian Thompson worked at UnitedHealthcare for two decades

Brian Thompson's LinkedIn profile reveals that he first joined UnitedHealthcare Group in 2004 as a corporate development director. Within three years, he was promoted to the company's CFO, and in 2021, he became the CEO.

As reported by CNN on December 5, like the rest of the leadership team at UnitedHealthcare, Brian was supported by an in-house security team. He was accompanied by his security detail to Manhattan. However, they were not with him on the morning of December 4, when Brian Thompson was shot.

Per the news outlet, the gunman was waiting for Thompson for a considerable amount of time and approached him from behind, shooting him twice, once in the back and another in his right calf.

Brian's wife, Paulette Thompson, told CNN on Wednesday that she was shattered to hear about the "senseless killing of beloved Brian." She described him as a generous, talented, and loving man who lived life to the fullest and would be greatly missed, especially by their two sons.
