The Nosferatu cast joined Buzzfeed UK for a fun conversation, in the middle of which Aaron Taylor-Johnson made a remark about The Weeknd, which even made Lily-Rose Depp laugh. In the interview whose video was dropped on December 30, the stars had to guess the shows or movies from a bad description of the same.
The host gave a description that stated:
"A tale of why you should never give a ugly man a chance because they will never leave you alone."
The cast, however, couldn't get the right answer, after which the host gave another clue to Aaron. He then asked Lily if it was The Weeknd. Aaron questioned:
"Is it the recent one? The Weeknd… Abel."
Emma Corrin, who was also present during the interview hinted at The Idol, presuming that the host was referring to this show. The host then clarified that she was describing Nosferatu. Lily-Rose Depp, however, couldn't stop laughing knowing that Aaron initially hinted at The Weeknd.
Aaron then mentioned that he wasn't thinking much while answering and just followed the clues that the host dropped. The remark, however, caught netizens' attention who flooded social media platforms with their responses. A user wrote on X:
"To be fair the character of Abel was insufferable."
Another user commented:
"Not his fault. weird question. but yes. very awkward. 😬"
"I think he was just referring to the idol show and the character lol," added a tweet.
"I can't believe Aaron went there, I'm dying 😂," wrote another netizen.
Many commented that Aaron had the "nerves" to take The Weeknd's name in this context and even call him "ugly." A user tweeted:
"Not Aaron calling The Weeknd ugly, this is too much 😭."
"He calling him Abel too?? And got nerve call him ugly bye," wrote another one.
"Didn’t see that coming! 😂 Aaron’s got no chill," mentioned a netizen.
Lily-Rose Depp was a part of The Idol alongside The Weeknd
Lily-Rose Depp, who was a part of the controversial HBO series told Vanity Fair in November, that she didn't regret playing the role. According to a report by Forbes published in May 2023, The Idol received massive scrutiny for its s*xually explicit subject matter.
Lily, however, told Vanity Fair that she loved working as the lead on the show. She further said:
"I love it. Honestly, I love it. You make something and you hope that people like it, and you hope that it resonates with people. But we always knew some people were not going to like it and that it was going to be too much for some people."
In the show, Lily played the character named Jocelyn, a young pop star and The Weeknd played the role of a nightclub owner named Tedros. According to BBC, the show did not receive very positive reviews and was eventually canceled only after its first season was aired. HBO has also confirmed that they won't release a second season.
