Former President Jimmy Carter passed away on December 29, 2024, at the age of 100, at his residence in Plains, Georgia. As per reports by BBC, Carter was suffering from an undisclosed ailment for which he decided to stop receiving treatment last year and opted for hospice care.

In a statement issued after the passing of the 39th POTUS, President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden described him as "an extraordinary leader, statesman and humanitarian." Meanwhile, Delta Airlines paid tribute to the late politician through a post on the social media platform X on December 29, 2024.

The first tweet shared by the airlines read:

"Today we celebrate his life - a great friend, family man, Nobel Peace Prize winner and leader who showed us all how to properly treat those around us. Rest in peace, Mr. President. Your legacy lives on."

In another tweet, the company shared an old clip showing Carter greeting other passengers while on the flight. Delta Airlines wrote that the former president would do it every time he was on their plane. The caption of the post read:

"Every time Jimmy Carter flew Delta, he shook hands with each person on the plane. Because that's who he was. Someone who treated people as people."

NASA and United Airlines have also paid tributes to the late politician. United Airlines posted a photo in which he could be seen getting off "Peanut One," an aircraft chartered by the company during the presidential campaign.

According to an article by Aerotime dated December 30, 2024, NASA Administrator Bill Nelson further described Jimmy Carter as a "pinnacle of a public servant."

Former President Jimmy Carter is known to have made significant transformation in the airline industry

Jimmy Carter, who has been well-known for his humanity, played an important role in transforming the commercial airline industry. On October 24, 1978, the ex-president signed the Airline Deregulation Act to ensure better customer experience at more affordable rates.

As per a report by FOX Business on December 29, the act's purpose was to prohibit:

"states from regulating the price, route or service of an air carrier for the purposes of keeping national commercial air travel competitive."

When the bill became law, airlines got the freedom to choose their own routes and further determine the travel expenses that the passengers had to bear.

As reported by BBC on December 29, 2024, Carter was the first and only president who followed a humble lifestyle after his term was over. The former president stayed at his two-bedroom ranch-style residence, where he lived before joining politics. In 2018, Carter told the Washington Post that he never wanted to be rich.

"I don’t see anything wrong with it; I don’t blame other people for doing it. It just never had been my ambition to be rich," said the 39th US president.

In 2007, Carter also joined Nelson Mandela to establish The Elders, an organization consisting of world leaders who dedicated themselves to work for global peace.

Social media platforms have further been flooded with condolences and tributes to the late former United States president.
