On September 10, 2024, pop icon Taylor Swift officially endorsed Kamala Harris in the White House race, hours after the presidential debate between the Democratic nominee and her Republican opponent and former President Donald Trump.
The Lover songstress took to her Instagram and shared a picture of herself holding her cat, Benjamin Button. She signed her post “Childless Cat Lady,” an alleged shot back at JD Vance, Donald Trump’s running mate, who once infamously used the term to describe women without kids, even dragging Kamala Harris’ name into it.
“I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election. I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes, I believe need a warrior to champion them,” the 34-year-old singer wrote.
Taylor Swift called Kamala Harris “a steady-handed, gifted leader” adding that under her leadership, the country “can accomplish so much more… if we are led by calm and not chaos.”
The Grammy winner also hit back at Donald Trump’s campaign claiming earlier this year that she had endorsed the ex-president, saying that it further encouraged her to be “transparent” about her choice and “combat misinformation” with the “truth.”
In the wake of Taylor Swift’s endorsement of Harris-Walz for the 2024 presidential election, the internet is having diverse reactions. For instance, X user @vsqoof commented on Pop Base’s post reporting the same by writing:
“Yea, Trump might as well wrap it up now.”
Several others joined the conversation and shared similar reactions on the platform, predicting Taylor Swift’s latest post might allegedly reduce Donald Trump’s chances of winning.
“Oh, it's over, Trump,” a person wrote.
“Pack it up, Donald,” wrote another.
“Ended Trump,” one person wrote.
Others mentioned how the pop star’s endorsement of Kamala Harris might be an ultimate game-changer.
“This alone just secured Kamala’s win. We won,” a netizen wrote.
“That’s a lot of votes,” another netizen wrote.
"Well, safe to say, Kamala is winning now," an individual wrote.
Meanwhile, Swifties praised the artist for her endorsement.
“Our girl is always on the right side of history,” a fan wrote.
“QUEENS SUPPORT QUEEN,” wrote another.
Exploring more about Taylor Swift’s endorsement of Kamala Harris
On Tuesday night, Taylor Swift endorsed Kamala Harris for the 2024 presidential election over social media. She began by saying how she made her decision after watching the “debate tonight”
“If you haven’t already, now is a great time to do your research on the issues at hand and the stances these candidates take on the topics that matter to you the most. As a voter, I make sure to watch and read everything I can about their proposed policies and plans for this country,” the 'Blank Space' singer wrote.
The Eras Tour headliner continued by writing:
“Recently I was made aware that AI of ‘me’ falsely endorsing Donald Trump’s presidential run was posted to his site. It really conjured up my fears around AI and the dangers of spreading misinformation. It brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter. The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth.”
Taylor Swift then directly went on to mention how she would be casting her vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the November election. She added that the current Vice President’s vision aligned with her own, calling her both “steady-handed” and “gifted” alongside being “calm.”
“I was so heartened and impressed by her selection of running mate @timwalz, who has been standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body for decades,” Swift shared.
Taylor wrapped up by saying that she did her “research” and made her “choice,” and urged her followers to do the same, including the first-time voters. She asked them to get “registered” and encouraged them to “vote early” as she herself found it “much easier.”
She signed her post, “With love and hope, Taylor Swift, Childless Cat Lady,” a dig at the Trump-Vance campaign. Following the endorsement, representatives of the Harris-Walz campaign told NBC News that it was a “decisive victory” for the current Vice President on the “debate stage” and was a testament to her “ability to attract support.”
Notably, this is not the first time Taylor Swift has endorsed Democratic candidates. Earlier in 2020, she showed her public support for Biden-Harris and even approved their use of her song Only the Young in advertisements.
