“Watch out”: Netizens react to Sia suing alleged imposter who tried to access her unreleased music

Popular singer Sia has filed a lawsuit against an unidentified person who is allegedly posing as the singer online and sending emails in hopes of access to her unreleased songs and music. As per Rolling Stone, the lawsuit was filed against an unidentified Jane/John Doe.

The publication reported that Sia does not know much about the culprit, but it is mentioned in the complaint that the imposter lives in California. The complaint made by Sia states:

“The defendant has emailed a number of persons in the music industry with whom the plaintiff is acquainted, including California residents, identifying him or herself as the plaintiff, using an email address containing the plaintiff’s name. Under the guise of Sia, the person has been “fraudulently asking the acquaintances to send the person recordings of the plaintiff performing that are not publicly available.”

Sia has also mentioned that she will be liable for punitive damages from the imposter on the grounds of email spoofing, identity theft, and invasion of privacy. As the news made its way on social media, netizens were quick to react. One person said:

Sia is currently gearing up for the release of her solo project, which will be her first after eight long years. As per Hot Press, her album, Reasonable Woman, will be released in Spring 2024. She has already released the first song, Gimme Love, from the album in September 2023.

While there is no denying that the internet has made our lives easier, it is also true that, at times, it can do more harm than good. Something similar happened with Sia, who has filed a lawsuit against an unidentified person who is allegedly trying to catfish by emailing people in the industry posing as the singer.

The Cheap Thrills singer claims that the alleged imposter is trying to get her unreleased music and songs. Hence, she has filed a lawsuit against the Jane/John Doe. As many publications reported about the same, it spread like wildfire on social media.

While the Chandelier singer has also asked for her lawyer’s fees from the unidentified culprit, her representatives or her lawyer have not yet spoken about the matter and have decided to remain tight-lipped about the whole fiasco.
