Actor and filmmaker Brian Jordan Alvarez is accused of s*xually assaulting fellow actor Jon Ebeling on the set of 2016’s The Gay and Wondrous Life of Caleb Gallo. In an exclusive interview with Vulture on Tuesday, December 17, Ebeling opened up about his new project titled English Teacher and made some allegations against his former co-star and director.
Ebeling further claimed in the same interview that he had already reported Alvarez to the Screen Actors Guild and the Los Angeles Police Department in September 2024.
Furthermore, on the same day, Ebeling shared an image from an English teacher on his Instagram Story, stating in the caption his own experience working with Alvarez.
“Was much closer to the plot of B*by Reind**r than whatever this is. Gonna skip this one.”
Ebeling here referred to the Netflix miniseries Baby Reindeer, which has been reposted by other artists. In the same series, the protagonist is groomed by a well-known TV producer before being s*xually assaulted.
More about the s*xual abuse allegations as Jon Ebeling opened up about Brian Jordan Alvarez
As mentioned, Vulture reported that Jon detailed a particular event that happened when a scene was being filmed beneath a comforter. Stating the same, he said:
“I am assuming nobody on set knows what's going on under the comforter, and I'm just frozen. I didn’t know what to do. I’m on set with my director, who is assaulting me. It was a horrible feeling.”
Jon further explained:
“I was like, ‘Wait a second. I didn’t consent to this. We didn’t talk about this.’ I was r*ped.”
On the other hand, even though the English Teacher actor did not specifically name Brian Jordan Alvarez in the Instagram post or accuse him of any crimes, the insinuation was evident given the story of the series he name-dropped.
Jon then re-shared his post on his own Instagram account after it was shared by other LGBT comedy community members on their own Stories. However, on the other hand, as per the same Vulture article, later in the same interview, Ebeling recalled that his then co-star Stephanie Koenig reportedly told him that his private areas were just another part of the body.
He responded that his previous transgressions did not justify his actions from the other night when he was allegedly assaulted. She then allegedly advised him to become more "accountable" by establishing more tight boundaries.
As reported by the same outlet, the scene in question was reportedly inspired by a real-life meeting situation between Jon Ebeling, Brian Jordan Alvarez, and Stephanie Koenig. Ebeling had an alleged s*xual encounter with Alvarez but also reportedly started dating Stephanie Koenig. Ebeling then told the outlet that he felt "insane pressure" to hook up with Jon in order to maintain harmony, continue seeing Steph, and remain on the show.
Jon then alleged that Brian Jordan Alvarez actually performed an oral s*x scene on him during the production of a scene when his character was meant to mimic it while being under a sheet. After freezing in the moment, Ebeling reportedly told Koenig later that he felt like he had been "r*ped."
However, Brian has refuted these accusations, claiming that Jon "enthusiastically gave consent" and that all contacts were consensual. As per the same Vulture report, Alvarez's lawyer told the outlet:
"Brian made contact with Mr. Ebeling's p*nis under the covers for a brief period of time, believing (rightly and justifiably given Brian's then-current s*xual relationship with Mr. Ebeling) that Mr. Ebeling was okay with it.”
In a follow-up, the attorney said that Ebeling "verbally agreed" to do it "for real" in advance, which Ebeling denies.
Following these allegations, neither Brian Jordan Alvarez nor Jon Ebeling said anything about the whole thing.
