In a shocking incident, CARATs noticed a sasaeng (an obsessive fan who has characteristics of a stalker) of SEVENTEEN’s Joshua in a promotional teaser released by the variety show Superman Returns, or The Return of Superman. Joshua appeared on the show with group mate Jun. The episode featuring them was released on April 28, 2023.
The variety show’s team posted a picture of the duo walking hand-in-hand with the show’s kids before the release of the episode. While it seemed like any other ordinary picture, some hawk-eyed fans noticed a person squatting and hiding behind the poles with a camera. They discovered it to be a fansite with Twitter ID @shu1230svt. This particular fansite had posted a similar photo a month ago.
CARATs, SEVENTEEN’s fandom, began spreading the word asking people to block the problematic fansite and raise a complaint to PLEDIS Entertainment. They believed that since it was not a public schedule, there should have been no way the fansite would have known the idols’ whereabouts unless they were stalking them.
Teaser for SEVENTEEN Joshua and Jun’s appearance on Superman Returns accidentally captures a sasaeng; fans rally for artists’ privacy
SEVENTEEN’s fandom, CARATs, recently noticed a sasaeng following them on their undisclosed professional schedule. Over a week ago, the variety show Superman Returns posted teaser pictures of a new episode starring SEVENTEEN’s Joshua and Jun. It was a part of the group’s comeback promotional activities for their 10th mini-album, FML.
In one of the teaser pictures, fans noticed a person across the road from the idols with a professional camera. The person was deemed to be a sasaeng or a fansite master by SEVENTEEN’s fandom. One Twitter user, @hongranghaey, apparently discovered the identity of the woman hiding in the official photo as the Twitter fansite @shu1230svt.
It was revealed that the Twitter account @shu1230svt had posted a similar photo last month. The photo uploaded by the fansite showed Joshua, Jun, and the kids walking from the front angle. They had blurred the children’s faces.
Word quickly spread across the fandom to block @shu1230svt. One Twitter user even found a sasaeng fansite of Jun, who had posted his pictures from the same day on their account. They requested CARATs to block them as well. Additionally, many tagged PLEDIS Entertainment to bring this issue to their notice.
In another news, SEVENTEEN made an impressive record by earning the label of the highest pre-ordered artist in the history of K-pop with FML. The group recorded 4.64 million stock pre-orders, beating the three-year record set by BTS’ Map of the Soul: 7 with 4.02 million orders.
The Super singers also achieved the highest first-day sales in K-pop’s history by recording 3.99 million sales in just one day. Additionally, FML beat the global music industry record by being the fastest selling album of the century, surpassing Adele’s 2015 album titled 25, which raked in 3.4 million copies in one week.
