On August 2, 2024, Frank Lucio Carillo, a 66-year-old Virginia man, was arrested for posting several violent threats against US Vice President Kamala Harris and other notable public figures.

The posts, made under the alias 'joemadarats1' on the social media platform GETTR, threatened Kamala Harris with various acts of violence that included stabbing, shooting, and burning her alive.

"Kamala Harris needs to be put on fire alive I will do it personally if no one else does it I want her to suffer a slow agonizing death," read a post from late July.

According to ABC 7 News, court documents showed a complaint being filed with the FBI's Phoenix Office by an Arizona county recorder's office on July 27.

The office reported several threats against Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer by GETTR user 'joemadarats1.'

During Carillo's arrest on Friday, police seized an AR-15 rifle, a 9 mm pistol and several bullets from his home in Winchester, Virginia. The suspect, who appeared at a federal court on Monday, is awaiting his hearing, scheduled for August 7.

Carillo mentioned Kamala Harris 19 times in his posts

According to NBC News, presumptive Democratic nominee and Vice President Kamala Harris is one of the many notable people Carillo made threats against on his account in GETTR, which included President Joe Biden.

Out of the total of 4359 posts, he mentioned Kamala Harris 19 times, threatening to "shoot and kill everyone" who stood in his way if she was elected President in the upcoming elections. In another post on July 27, he wrote:

"Crapler Harris is laying thieving piece of garbage like the rest of this administration they all need to die and they will soon."

After the Arizona County Recorder's office filed the complaint, the FBI tracked Carillo's account through device information and Google location history and arrested him on August 2.

In addition to targeting political figures, Carillo urged people to "go out with your guns" and kill Muslims living in the US. In another post, he wrote illegal immigrants "should be shot in the head quickly" if they came to the polls to vote on November 5.

“I believe when [the] illegals show up to vote they should be shot in the head quickly they are not allowed to vote so then they must die cuz if I see any of them I’ll kill them,” the post read.

These threats follow former President and Republican nominee Donald Trump's alleged assassination attempt on July 14, 2024. The suspect, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, was shot and killed at the scene by a Secret Service sniper.

According to ABC 7 News, Western District of Virginia's attorney Christopher R. Kavanaugh condemned Carillo's inciting posts. In a statement released on August 5, he said:

“Open political discourse is a cornerstone of our American experience. We can disagree. We can argue and we can debate. However, when those disagreements cross the line to threats of violence, law enforcement must step in."

Vice President Kamala Harris became the presumptive Democratic nominee after President Joe Biden withdrew from the upcoming elections and endorsed her on July 21, 2024. Harris and Trump will stand for election on November 5, 2024.
