MAGA personality Gina Loudon has sparked disbelief among netizens after her recent comments about the fantasy film Wicked. During a recent airing of her show, Dr. Gina Prime Time, Loudon claimed she was sick of Hollywood "storylines" that allegedly portrayed "white people" as "dumb and evil."
Accusing the film of allegedly being "racist," she elaborated:
"They have Ariana Grande, who is obviously a Hispanic woman, playing the part of a ditzy, blonde, white, really villain when it comes right down to it for this particular movie."
As Gina Loudon's comments went viral, internet users were quick to express their shock. Many pointed out that Ariana Grande was Italian-American. Here are some comments seen under @PopCrave's post on X:
"MAGA going back to old-old racism, calling Italians Hispanics, they gon be calling the Irish black soon," one user wrote.
"amazing how some white people are so racist they think ariana grande was a diversity hire," a netizen sarcastically added.
"I’m surprised someone is this dumb but then again they’re a Trumpie, so it fits the job description," another commented.
Others continued to call Loudon's remarks "stupid."
"words used to mean things," one person added.
"Girl what tf are you on about were your eyes open at any point during the movie??" another user questioned.
"Wicked bringing out the stupidity of people is not something I even considered happening," a person remarked.
"It’s Holly-weird – I should have known they would try to make it woke"- Gina Loudon about Wicked
Wicked is a musical fantasy film directed by Jon M. Chu, based on the stage production of the same name. It is based on the novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. It stars Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba Thropp (Wicked Witch of the West) and Ariana Grande-Butera as Galinda Upland (Glinda the Good).
During a recent episode of her show, Dr. Gina Prime Time, which airs on the far-right channel Real America’s Voice, she discussed Grande's recent film, Wicked. Loudon explained that she was "excited" to see the "interpretation" of the movie after hearing it "broke box office records." She continued:
"But I should have known it’s Holly-weird – I should have known they would try to make it woke in the ways that they could think of."
Loudon added:
"The racism and the racial appropriation I just thought was offensive, frankly. All white people aren’t dumb and evil, and I just get kind of sick of that storyline and I feel like that’s where it started, and it kind of lost me there and it was three hours long."
Gina Loudon was a member of Donald Trump's campaign’s media advisory board in 2020. She was also the co-chair of Women for Trump 2020. She married former Missouri Senator John William Loudon in 1990.
She wrongly alleged that casting Grande was "racial appropriation," as the singer is Hispanic. In a profile of the singer by the BBC in 2017, she mentioned that she was of Italian descent.
Gina Loudon has not publicly reacted to the criticism.
