Harvey Weinstein is back in the hospital after his doctors found "alarming" results from his blood tests. The Hollywood producer has been held at Rikers Island while waiting for the retrial of his r*pe charges in New York due next year. However, on Monday, December 2, 2024, his attorney, Imran H. Ansari, shared a health update,
Ansari noted in a statement, reported by Newsweek and Variety, that the movie mogul's blood tests revealed "alarming" results amid his leukemia battle. Without going into details of the blood test results, he said that Harvey Weinstein has been hospitalized at Bellevue Hospital, requiring "emergent treatment," and will remain there until his condition stabilizes.
As for claims that Weinstein is not getting proper care while in jail, his attorney said on Monday:
"His deprivation of care is not only medical malpractice, but violation of his constitutional rights."
Harvey Weinstein has been diagnosed with a number of medical conditions over the years. He reportedly has chronic myeloid leukemia, diabetes, coronary artery disease, and also suffers from sleep apnea.
His team also said that he had been treated for spinal stenosis, COVID-19, and fluid in his lungs and heart.
Per reports, this is not the first time that Weinstein has been hospitalized at Bellevue. He has reportedly been transferred between the hospital and Rikers numerous times, with his attorneys claiming that Bellevue's would discharge the movie mogul prematurely.
When he returns to Rikers, his condition allegedly worsens, requiring readmission at the hospital.
Harvey Weinstein's attorneys previously threatened to sue for medical neglect
Harvey Weinstein's lawyers filed a claim notice on November 26, accusing Rikers Island and the staff at Bellevue Hospital of failing to provide proper medical care for the movie mogul while in jail.
Ansari requested $5 million in damages in the filing, further claiming that correction officers and other medical personnel neglected his condition.
He noted Weinstein's thyroid condition and his white blood cell counts, which they failed to manage. Ansari then said that their neglect led to "crashes and destabilization." He also accused that Weinstein got pneumonia because he was "housed in freezing cold environments."
Moreover, he noted that the movie mogul spent "several months" deprived of his cancer medication, further stating:
"While in the custody of Rikers Island Correctional Facility, [Harvey Weinstein's] medical conditions deteriorated significantly, unreasonably, and dangerously, leading to multiple instances where [Weinstein] feared for his life."

He also mentioned that they've given the respondents notice of the his medical conditions, but they "intentionally, recklessly, and/or negligently" failed to give him proper medical care.
Harvey Weinstein's attorneys also detailed his unhygienic conditions while in prison. Ansari compared the facility to a "gulag" in a statement on November 26, pet CBS News. He said that he visited Weinstein in jail and saw his "hardly sanitary condition."
Ansari mentioned seeing blood splatter on his prison garb, which he thought was from IVs, and that his clothes hadn't been washed for weeks.
Jail personnel also didn't provide the mogul with clean underwear, he claimed, which wasn't helping people like Weinstein who have "severe medical conditions."
Representatives from Rikers Island are yet to respond to these allegations.
Harvey Weinstein is next due to appear in court on January 29, 2025.
