A 30-year-old Brazilian fitness influencer Luanne Jardim died from a gunshot during an attempted carjacking on May 21. The news was confirmed through an Instagram post on May 23. Lu's husband, João Pedro Farche also spoke about her passing on social media.
The incident took place on Sunday evening when Lu, the mother of two was out with Pedro and their son in Rio de Janeiro. However, the family outing took a tragic turn when several suspects approached their car and started shooting at them.
In the Instagram statement translated into English, her family wrote:
“Our dear star Luanne passed on to shine brighter. Is in heaven with our Lord Jesus Christ. On behalf of the whole family, we thank you for all the messages of affection we are receiving. And we know Lu is getting all this love too.”
A bullet reportedly went through Lu's heart. She was subsequently rushed to the Salgado Filho Municipal Hospital in Méier but died shortly after.

Luanne had over 360K followers on Instagram. She was loved by people and she inspired many with her fitness journey. People were devastated and deeply saddened by the news of her untimely passing. They demanded justice for her death and expressed their heartfelt sorrow in the comments section of the post announcing the news.
Many said that Lu was too young to die. Some were also concerned about her two children whom she left behind.
Luanne Jardim's father believes her death was a targeted attack
While Luanne Jardim's death is being investigated by the police as a case of attempted robbery, her father, Atanael Jardim believes that his daughter was the target of the attack. Atanael claimed that Lu was being followed before she was shot.
As per the New York Post, he told a local news outlet:
“This was not just a theft, a robbery. It was homicide. No one shoots at another car with the windows closed.”
Investigators' reports stated that the suspects initially shot at the back of the car before they rounded the vehicle and came to the side, and then started firing again. Luanne Jardim's husband and their son, who were also inside the car at the time, escaped unscathed. Their son only suffered minor injuries.
Pedro mentioned via Instagram that he was in the backseat during the attack and their son, Miguelzinho hurt his face as some pieces of the broken glass hit him. But other than that, he was okay.
