On Sunday, July 14, at 10 pm, beloved TikTok star Bella Thomson, also referred to as Bella Brave in her online community, passed away. Her mother, Kyla Thomson, shared the news in an emotional update on TikTok on July 15. With a video of her daughter dancing, Kyla wrote-
"Our brave girl left her legacy here on earth to dance on streets of gold July 14th 2024 at 4:19 pm ET."
Bella Brave went viral on social media for exhibiting her colorful personality as her parents, Kyla and Lyle, recorded her life-threatening health challenges. Bella had severe combined immunodeficiency and Hirschsprung's disease, a rare bowel illness.
Babies with Hirschsprung's disease experience a delay in passing the stool through the intestines due to improper development of some intestinal nerve cells. The stool blocks the intestine, causing obstruction for the infant.
Bella Brave had Hirschsprung's disease
Internet sensation Bella 'Brave' Thomson succumbed to Hirschsprung's disease at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto on July 14 at 4:19 pm Eastern Time.
The illness, known as Hirschsprung's disease, affects the colon (the large intestine) and results in difficulties passing stool. It refers to the problem that exists from birth due to a lack of nerve cells in the colon muscles of the infant.
The contents of the colon can back up and produce blockages in the intestine if these nerve cells do not stimulate the muscles in the gut to help move the contents through the colon.
In the early postnatal days, a newborn with Hirschsprung's disease typically cannot pass the stool. In less severe cases, the illness may go undetected until later in infancy. It is unusual for adults to be diagnosed with Hirschsprung's disease.
Regarding the cause of the illness, researchers are not sure of the reason behind the ganglion cells' incomplete movement to the end of the rectum. However, hereditary factors might have a role, particularly when the illness affects larger intestinal lengths or when another family member has the same issue. Additionally, children with Down syndrome, like Bella Brave, are also more susceptible.
Moreover, the signs change with age. In the first six weeks of birth, signs of Hirschsprung's illness manifest in 80% of children. Nevertheless, symptoms may not appear for months or even years in children with a small portion of the intestine devoid of normal nerve cells.
The symptoms that each kid experiences will vary, but frequent symptoms in newborns include not passing regular stool during the first 48 hours of life, stomach bloating, gas, gradual vomiting, diarrhea, fever, and constipation.
Hirschsprung's disease can also cause some older children to develop symptoms, even if they don't have early indications. These symptoms include constipation that gets worse over time, appetite loss, exhaustion, failure to thrive, gas, delayed growth, passing tiny, watery stools, and abdominal distention.
It can occasionally result in potentially fatal colon conditions, including toxic megacolon and enterocolitis. It is not possible to heal Hirschsprung's illness on its own. The person suffering from the illness needs to have surgery to remove or bypass the affected colonic portion. For kids who do not receive surgery, it can be lethal.
The majority of infants, like Bella Brave, who has been diagnosed with Hirschsprung's illness, undergo surgery in their first few months of life. The healthy portion of the child's intestine is connected to the rectum during this procedure, which removes the affected portion of the intestine.
Apart from Hirschsprung's disease, Bella Brave also dealt with a severe combined immunodeficiency and a type of dwarfism. Meanwhile, Bella's mother shared the news with Swift Current Online and said-

Funeral plans for Bella Brave have not yet been finalized; however, the Swift Current Online community reported that the family will let everyone know as soon as they have finalized the plans.
