After facing backlash for wearing a grey muscle shirt and white shorts at a concert, gospel artist Kirk Franklin took to social media to apologize. The musician also faced criticism for his alleged inappropriate dance moves that included gyrating and flexing on stage. The singer was invited to put on a concert at the Best Dressed Chicken’s 65th anniversary of doing business with “God’s faithfulness.”

While ruminating about the peaks of 2024 and his hopes for the new year, Kirk Franklin candidly spoke about the show that took place in Jamaica last April. As mentioned, many were displeased with his onstage demeanor, which resembled a quintessential pop star’s concert moves.

While addressing his outfit, Kirk Franklin, a Fort Worth, Texas, native, said in a YouTube video titled Thank you for a beautiful 24:

“I am aware now that my choice of attire, which, as a team, we thought was gonna be fine as being outside in the weather was going to be something that would not come across as disrespectful. And, since I’ve spent most of my career dancing, moving around, and jumping on stage, I didn’t know that I would ever do anything that would offend anyone and any community. But it did, and because it did, I sincerely apologize.”

Kirk Dewayne Franklin is a gospel singer, choir director, rapper, and record producer best known for his Christian R&B tracks and urban contemporary gospel. Some of his ensembles include One Nation Crew, God’s Property, and The Family.

“I have failed” - Kirk Franklin addresses Jamaica performance on YouTube

In the lengthy YouTube video, Kirk Franklin also addressed the viral clip of him seemingly twerking on stage during his The Reunion Tour with The Clark Sisters, Marvin Sapp and Fred Hammond. Franklin agreed that his actions were “too much.” He said:

“I play too much, I’m friends with these people, we have fun backstage, and I don’t know how to separate the backstage Kirk from onstage Kirk.”

He also said:

“I sincerely apologize because I never want to get to a place that can’t learn, that I can’t learn what I need to do better. What I can do different to make sure I grow as a man, grow physically or in any aspect that I am always being humble enough and submissive enough to hear people and their concern about anything being bigger than the message of Jesus because it doesn’t matter what my goal and intent is. If I am louder than the message of Jesus, then I have failed.”

In the video, Franklin also told his followers that he just wanted his fans at his concert to have a good time. He then added:

“So when you come, I want you to feel like you had a good time, that it was a show that did not compromise the Gospel. And I’m gonna do it every time because, guess what? I’m having a good time making you happy.”

Kirk Franklin has amassed over three million followers on Instagram, with nearly two million subscribers on YouTube.
