Ophelia Nichols, aka Mama Tot, recently found herself in the middle of a controversy, where she lost about 200k followers. Fans were appalled by a now-deleted video that Nichols posted, which seemed to be spreading misinformation regarding the recent natural disaster Helene and FEMA's response to it.

Mama Tot had been accused of spreading horrific misinterpreted information about the hurricane and how the Federal Emergency Management Agency was dealing with it. One of her most circulated claims was that the agency had denied relief to Republicans who were impacted by the hurricane and diverted a lot of funds to areas with more Democrats.

This caused many of her fans to reconsider their decision to follow her since the conspiracy theories that she came up with seemed to be quite far-fetched. In the past, Nichols had shown support to the queer community. After the current stunt, many of her viewers believed that her support for the LGBTQ groups was only to chase clout.

Social Blade reports claimed that she had lost about 100,000 followers on TikTok, just last week on Sunday. A day after, the social media star reportedly lost another 100k of them from her account.

Mama Tot responded to the drama and claimed that her now-deleted videos were not political in nature

Amid the TikTok drama, the content creator first removed the video and then she even came up with an explanation, according to which the controversial content she shared, wasn't from a political point of view. She further claimed that she had never used politics on the platform.

In the follow-up video, that Mama Tot shared from another TikTok account named @ShowLover99, the content creator said:

"I have been on this app since 2020, and I've loved on people the entire time. Not one time have I ever used my platform for politics or for any of that stuff. For one, people do not even know how to help one another when it comes to politics. They just do not. They hate you if you do not agree."

She then stated that her social media handles were never about her political viewpoints. Mama Tot continued by mentioning that she wasn't talking about politics when she made the claims about the hurricane and FEMA's response to it.

According to the content creator, she was just frustrated with how so many people were devasted and impacted due to the natural calamity. She added:

"In that video, I never said anything about politics, FEMA, money, the government, presidents. I never said anything about those things. None of that..."

Mama Tot continued sharing clips related to the hurricane, one of which showed her donating supplies for the people impacted by the deadly storm. While it is unclear if she was just sentimental or if there was another motive behind the controversial statements, the online backlash against her hasn't stopped.

For the unversed, over time, Nichols had become a liked content creator and a mother figure to her fans, who even lovingly gave her the nickname "Mama Tot." While she began posting content on TikTok in August 2020, her channel soon involved advising youngsters.

Fans had previously commented several times that they loved her positive attitude, as reported by Business Insider.
