The Golden Globes event happened on Sunday, January 5, and CBS censored a joke that Canadian actor Seth Rogen cracked, as per reports by Independent dated January 6. Rogen and Schitt's Creek actress Catherine O'Hara were presenting the award for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Limited Series, Anthology Series.

At the time, the duo began complimenting each other's fictional projects that they have been a part of in the US. Catherine O'Hara said that Seth Rogen did a great job playing a "young Ryan in Gosling, the Ryan Gosling unauthorized biopic." Rogen soon responded addressing the fictional project and said:

"Thank you, it was unauthorized and –"

This was when the joke got censored. However, it was unclear if there had been a technical glitch leading to the bleep. IndieWire later revealed the removed part of the joke, which read:

"Yes, it was unauthorized. And the Mickey Mouse Club h*ndjob scene was controversial, but we felt very important to depict."

Soon after the censored version was aired, several fans also wondered what the actual joke that Seth Rogen cracked could be. According to an article by The Independent, Ryan Gosling was part of The All-New Mickey Mouse Club, back in 1993, when he was only 13 years old.

This part of Seth Rogen's joke was also not available on Paramount+, even though the platform didn't necessarily have to be restricted by the same rules as broadcast television.

The Golden Globes is an event where roasting of the celebrities is a common element, and this year it was hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser. Before the event, Nikki Glaser had told Yahoo Entertainment that she wouldn't cross the boundaries during the roasting and mocking part.

"I'm not gonna go so hard that anyone's gonna be offended," Glaser said.

Seth Rogen and Catherine O'Hara joked about winning fake Canadian awards

Apart from making a censored joke during the Golden Globes on Sunday, Seth Rogen cracked several jokes along with Catherine O'Hara. The duo hilariously mentioned winning "Golden Antlers" in Canada for their works in the country.

"It’s stuff you guys haven’t heard of, but actually, Catherine won not one, but two Golden Antlers for her work as Mama Morissette in the Alanis Morissette story," Rogen said.

Shortly after this, O'Hara gave her response about the fictional "Golden Antler" awards.

"What about you and your brave Golden Antler win for your turn as young Ryan, yes, in Gosling, the Ryan Gosling unauthorized biopic?" O'Hara responded.

While Seth Rogan and O'Hara cracked some hilarious jokes at the event, the 2025 Golden Globes host Nikki Glaser also won hearts with her performance.

She made jokes about stars like Timothée Chalamet. Glaser further joked about Diddy's afterparties by commenting that there would be no such parties this time and that "Stanley Tucci freak off doesn’t have the same ring to it." She then joked about Chalamet's mustache and called it "the most gorgeous eyelashes on your upper lip."

The comedian revealed to E! News about making changes to her speech several times to make it perfect. The event, hosted by Glaser, took place at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, and broadcast on CBS and Paramount+.
