Stephen Matthews assaulted several women after he invited them to his home and made them a drink
Most of the cases in the arrest affidavit have a similar story, and all the victims claim to have met Stephen Matthews through various dating apps, which reveals a pattern.
According to a report by CBS News, on January 25, 2023, one of the victims was on a date with Stephen Matthews, where she had one alcoholic drink at a bar and then went to his home.
CBS News reported that, according to the affidavit, Stephen made her a drink there, and she lost her balance after consuming the same. The victim mentioned that she remembered him filming her at one point and kissing her, after which she blacked out. She claimed that she has little to no memory of what happened but believes she was s*xually assaulted by Stephen.
CBS News also reported that another victim informed the police that she met Stephen Matthews on the dating app, Tinder, and went out for brunch with him in 2019. She mentioned that Stephen took her to his home and made her a drink.
After having the drink, she mentioned that "things became very blurry." She stated that she woke up in her apartment to Stephen having s*x with her. Having no clue or memory of what happened and how she ended up there, she told him that they would not meet again. The victim then claimed that the cardiologist blackmailed her by sending her nude photos of herself in a hot tub.
In 2020 or 2021, another victim reported to Denver police that she met the suspect through the dating app Hinge. He asked her to visit him in the hospital, stating many other women had done so in the past. The affidavit stated that she declined but later met him at his home, where she had consensual s*x with him once, but the second time, Stephen made her a drink, following which she blacked out.
On May 15, 2023, the police issued a search warrant for Stephen's residence.
