Susan Wojcicki, the former CEO of YouTube, has passed away after a brave battle with non-small cell lung cancer. Her husband, Dennis Troper, announced her death in a heartfelt but now-deleted Facebook post on August 10, 2024, sharing that she fought the disease for two years.

"It is with profound sadness that I share the news of Susan Wojcicki's passing. My beloved wife of 26 years and mother to our five children left us today after 2 years of living with non-small cell lung cancer," he wrote.

Following the announcement of the former YouTube CEO's passing, the tech community and media have focused on her remarkable career and substantial net worth. According to Celebrity Net Worth, as of 2024, Susan Diane Wojcicki had an estimated net worth of $500 million at the time of her passing.

The American business executive started her career at 11 by selling spice ropes locally. Later, in 1999, Google founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page rented a garage at Susan Wojcicki's place in Menlo Park, California. She was offered a position as inaugural marketing manager and Google employee number 16. After being hired, Wojcicki worked on Google AdSense, Analytics, Books, and Images.

As per Forbes, Wojcicki proposed acquiring the up-and-coming video-sharing service YouTube, which Google acquired in 2006 for $1.65 billion. The platform now has 2.49 billion monthly active users. Susan Wojcicki served as the CEO of YouTube from 2014 until February 16, 2023.

In an official YouTube blog post, Susan Wojcicki reflected on her time with the company, stating that joining YouTube was the best decision of her career. As she announced her decision to step down, Wojcicki expressed excitement and anticipation for the opportunities and challenges that lay ahead in her journey.

"I always dreamed of working for a company with a mission that could change the world for the better. It has been an absolute privilege to be a part of it, and I'm excited for what's next," Wojcicki wrote in a memo.

Before joining Google, Susan Wojcicki worked with Intel in the marketing department and as a management consultant at Bain & Company. She was a Silicon Valley native and attended Harvard University, as per her LinkedIn profile. Her extensive work at Google, YouTube, and other ventures significantly contributed to the growth of her net worth.

Wojcicki's father, Stanley Wojcicki, was the chairperson of the physics department at Stanford University. Her mother, Esther Wojcicki, taught journalism for more than two decades at Palo Alto High School. She has two sisters: the anthropologist Janet Wojcicki and the CEO of 23andMe, Anne Wojcicki.


Susan Wojcicki died at 56

On Saturday, Wojcicki's husband, Dennis Troper, the director of product for Wear OS by Google, announced her untimely demise in a since-deleted Facebook post. Troper, in a post, suggested that Wojcicki was his best friend, a "brilliant mind" person, and a dear to many.

"Susan was not just my best friend and partner in life, but a brilliant mind, a loving mother, and a dear friend to many," Troper wrote.

He further emphasized that her impact on their family and the world is "immeasurable". He added that while they are heartbroken during this time, they remain deeply grateful for the time they were able to share with her.

"Her impact on our family and the world was immeasurable. We are heartbroken, but grateful for the time we had with her," he added.

Lastly, he requested that readers keep them in their thoughts and prayers as they endure this difficult time.

"Please keep our family in your thoughts as we navigate this difficult time," he concluded.

Troper had not revealed the exact lung cancer case in non-small cell lung cancer. As per Yale Medicine, NSCLC is the most common type of cancer, accounting for approximately 85% of all lung cancer cases. NSCLC is divided into several subtypes: Adenocarcinoma, Squamous Cell Carcinoma, and Large Cell Carcinoma.

Susan Wojcicki married Dennis Troper in 1998 and is survived by her husband and five children. The final ritual details are yet to be revealed.
