Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, has recently been criticized by the British royal journalist Tina Brown over her multiple business ventures. On the April 18 episode of Mixed Signals by Semafor Media podcast, Brown bashed Markle for not sticking to one thing.
According to the Daily Mail's April 21 report, Tina Brown is a royal author. In 2007, she wrote The Diana Chronicles, a book about Princess Diana. In 2022, she wrote the book's sequel, The Palace Papers, about the British Royal Family. Brown was also the editor-in-chief of Vanity Fair from 1986 to 1992.
Brown stated that Markle supposedly makes too many announcements and fails to follow through. She then mentioned the Duchess of Sussex's Netflix show, With Love, Meghan, her lifestyle brand, As Ever, and her latest podcast, Confessions of a Female Founder. The author advised that Markle should do one thing at a time instead of being "panic-stricken," saying:
"Her problem is just that she is so ADD. She just never stops making announcements and never really follows through. It's like, I'm gonna do a cooking show! Nah - I'm going to be a podcaster. And hello, hello, I've got a beauty line! It’s like, just do one of those things, do it really well, and then do something else. She’s weirdly panic-stricken in her business model."
Then, Tina Brown stated that Meghan Markle is allegedly trying to imitate Beyoncé or Michelle Obama without trying to understand the years of work the two have put in.
"Maybe she's just so devoid of self-confidence that she's always trying to be a sort of instant Beyoncé or instant Michelle Obama without the background that has built those people — you know, those very, very strong structures on which they stand. So that's really been her problem," Brown added.
Brown continued criticizing the duchess, claiming she's "enormously shallow" in her way of working.
"If she’d simply succeeded at one thing, and then done another thing, she’d be in a much, much better place. But she’s enormously shallow in her approach to the work she does," Tina remarked.
Last month, Tina Brown slammed Meghan Markle's Netflix show, With Love, Meghan

On March 10, 2025, Tina Brown reviewed Meghan Markle's Netflix show, With Love, Meghan, on her Substack newsletter Fresh Hell. In the same, the journalist brought up popular television personality Martha Stewart.
Brown stated that, unlike Stewart, Meghan Markle never built a convincing onscreen persona. The author called the duchess "the ultimate follower," and said she was "behind the curve."
"[Meghan] has never figured out a convincing persona. Masquerading as an influencer, she's the ultimate follower, which inevitably means she is behind the curve," she wrote.
Brown also expressed that Markle should've stayed in the royal family a few more years and waited for Queen Elizabeth to pass away.
"It didn’t take a rocket scientist to know that, at age 94, the monarch clearly had only a few years more to live, at which point the family chess pieces would start to move around the royal power board. All Meghan had to do was shut up and wait," Tina wrote.
Meghan Markle's podcast, Confessions of a Female Founder, is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and Amazon Music.
In other news, as per Netflix on March 8, Markle's cooking show, With Love, Meghan's second season has completed filming and is scheduled to be released in fall 2025.
