Actor Aubrey Plaza's director husband Jeff Baena was discovered dead in his Los Angeles home at the age of 47. In their January 4 story, Daily Mail reported that Baena's assistant discovered his body on Friday and officers responded to the scene at 10:25 am.
According to an exclusive story by TMZ from the same day, Baena, who is married to Aubrey Plaza, died by suicide. Law enforcement sources informed TMZ that Baena was pronounced dead at the scene.
The late director's family informed Deadline that they are currently requesting privacy since they are heartbroken by the news.
The Horse Girl director is survived by his wife Aubrey Plaza, his mother Barbra Stern, his brother Brad Baena, his father Scott Baena, his step-siblings Bianca Gabay and Jed Fluxman, his stepfather Roger Stern, and his stepmother Michele Baena.
Baena and Plaza started dating in 2011 and got married in 2020. Plaza spoke about their small and spontaneous wedding in an episode of The Ellen Show in December 2021 and shared that they got married in their backyard on their 10th anniversary.

Jeff Baena, an independent filmmaker and screenwriter passed away at the age of 47. In 2014, he wrote and directed the zombie comedy Life After Beth which has his wife Aubrey Plaza in the lead role.
More recently, he wrote, directed, and executive produced the 2022 film Spin Me Round and the 2021 television series Cinema Toast on Showtime. Plaza, 40, and Baena often worked together on various projects. Plaza even credited Baena's productions for polishing her skills, both in front of and behind the camera.
Speaking candidly about her wedding on The Ellen Show in 2021, Aubrey Plaza Plaza said that it was an unplanned wedding that took place in their backyard when they were taking cover during the COVID-19 outbreak.
Talking about the same, she further said:
"I just said 'It's our 10-year anniversary, we should do something, get an ice cream cone, you know, do something special. And then I joked about getting married and he's like 'Well, we probably couldn't get married that fast…"
She continued:
"I said 'Wouldn't it be nice to get married on our actual anniversary? And then I Googled it, and I found OneHourMarriage.com, and then I called around 5 p.m., and I said 'Can you come in an hour and marry me in our yard?'"
Additionally, the award-winning actor addressed Jeff Baena as her "darling husband" in a May 2021 Instagram post, which is also the final post featuring the couple together.
The post's caption read:
“So proud of my darling husband @jeffbaena for dreaming up another film that takes us to italia to cause some more trouble. Excited to be reunited with the amazing @alisonbrie (who also co-wrote this one!) and @theofficialsuperstar @sordociego @lauren_weedman and so many more fun people in this. Preparati!!"
The celebrity pair were seen looking into each other's eyes in their final post together. Screenshots of a 2021 Deadline piece about the couple's "new assignment", the 2022 movie Spin Me Round, were included with the post.
Meanwhile, Aubrey Plaza has not spoken publically about her husband's death.
