Award-winning actor Jamie Foxx recently addressed recent criticism surrounding his impersonation of President-elect Donald Trump during a red-carpet interview at the Golden Globes.
On January 5, 2025, on the Golden Globes red carpet, Jamie Foxx addressed recent discussions about his impersonation of Donald Trump. Despite criticism, Foxx defended his performance, suggesting it was far from poorly executed.
"It was not that bad, many times people said that it was bad, but it was actually the best Jamie impersonation of me that I have ever done of me, and I was not even there. Today honest with you, it was amazing, what do you believe that blind guy or the other blind guy," Foxx said.
Foxx’s impersonation of Donald Trump took place on August 25, 2022, during a Rap Radar podcast with Dave Franco and Snoop Dogg. His portrayal, characterized by its distinct vocal mimicry and mannerisms, sparked both praise and criticism from audiences. As some on X wrote —
"This is seriously the best I have heard. The comedy is in what Jamie says, because the accent is not a “goof”, it’s an actual impersonation. Wow. Yo Lorne? @nbcsnl," one wrote.
"If you’ve seen his other specials this was no different than the others as far as the format. He always had call and response type mantras. Broke it up into segments where he did everything separately. Jokes, stories bout his life as a famous ni**a , call and response, a song, bring the piano out," one more on X.
"Jamie foxx never been funny to me I agree with joe budden," another commented.
Jamie Foxx addresses backlash over his Trump impersonation at Golden Globes
During his red carpet appearance at the Golden Globes on January 5, Jamie Foxx, wearing an all-black three-piece suit with a flower bow tie, addressed his viral impersonation of Donald Trump. During the conversation, Foxx indicated that, to date, it was his best impersonation.
The impersonation occurred in August 2022 during a Rap Radar podcast. Also, this event originated when Jamie Foxx joined Snoop Dogg on a podcast to promote their new film, Day Shift, which was released on August 10, 2022. Foxx then proceeded to recite a number of Trump’s famous catchphrases.
"There’s a lot of great people on both sides. I know Harry O. He’s a great person. He couldn’t vote for me at the time. Now he can vote for me once he gets out. I love Snoop D O double-G. Great person," Foxx said.
Furthermore, when Dave Franco inquired about his favorite Death Row record, Foxx responded in Donald Trump's voice. While others laughed, Foxx said,
"All of them. I love Death Row records. I love Death row. Excuse me, excuse me, fake news, I love Death Row records. Don’t try to pin me down. Excuse me, excuse me, fake news."
Jamie Foxx then reverted to his own character, laughed out loud, and suggested that the host and others tried to give him a virus, but he beat it.
"They tried to give me the virus. I beat the virus. They they tried to get another, who is they? I beat them. F*ck yeah, he beat it," Foxx added.
Despite the mixed reactions, Foxx continues to stand by his performance, emphasizing the subjective nature of comedy and the importance of humor in reflecting societal issues.
