American singer and rapper Lizzo recently shared her weight loss journey on her TikTok account. She explained how she has been in a calorie deficit, how she stopped drinking Starbucks, and much more.
Lizzo began her weight loss journey in 2023. She started working out regularly and has maintained a calorie deficit, which means consuming fewer calories than her body burns daily. Last year, she also mentioned that she paused her vegan diet after visiting Japan.
In a recent TikTok live, she talked about her breakfast choices:
"I do something sweet. It's gotta be with some sort of like carb. I'll have like almond butter and toast. So, everybody's body is different. Find out what works for you," she said, noting that she believes the only thing that "works across the board, science-wise, is calories in versus calories out. That's just how the human body works."
She also mentioned that she used to have 2-3 large Starbucks drinks each day but has stopped now because of the high calorie content.

Lizzo left veganism in 2024
In October 2024, the Grammy-winning singer shared her journey of leaving veganism. She stated in an Instagram video (via PEOPLE):
“Someone suggested I try a Japanese diet because it’s one of the healthiest diets in the world, and it has some of my favorite foods. When I got to Japan, I was in awe with how clean and delicious their food was. I indulged in fresh sushi and fluffy egg and I was amazed at how good my body felt the next day.
"That led me on a journey to figure out how animal proteins affect my body,” she said. “After tests and research, I found that animal proteins helped me have more energy, lose weight and helped with my mental fog.”
Lizzo announced in 2020 that she was going vegan. She still plans to return to being an alkaline vegan in the future.
Lizzo explains her battle with anxiety and how she overcame it
In the aforementioned TikTok Live, the singer also spoke about how she has been dealing with anxiety over the years. She said that she now takes active steps, such as meditation, to help her with that.
"I've been working to get my anxiety under control for years. And then I decided that I want to release and I'm ready to stop waiting to be myself like fully and be happy. And I meditated. I calmed myself down. And I isolated a little bit, but not like made myself lonely, not the way I used to when I was depressed. I isolated myself in a mindful way where I had no distractions."
Lizzo also explained she stopped distracting herself with people and things and focused on mindfulness and herself.
"I loved to distract myself with people. I loved to distract myself with food. I loved to distract myself with drinking. I loved to distract myself with problems that I would create. I would love to do that. And I stopped doing that. And I just focused on me."
In terms of weight loss, the singer revealed in January that she had lowered her body fat by 16% and her body mass index by 10.5.
