American actor Erik Jenson, best known for playing in the post-apocalyptic horror drama television series The Walking Dead, has been diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. According to a GoFundMe page started by his family, the 53-year-old personality suffered from a brain aneurysm "just a year and a half ago" and now has been diagnosed with cancer.

"As many of you know, Erik is a deeply devoted father to 13-year-old Sadie, who's the light of his life; an incredible husband to Jessica, his partner in art and life for the last 23 years; and a profoundly hardworking, generous artist who has spent decades committed to creating work in service of healing, justice, and making the world a better place."

The post added that Jenson needs "to help his daughter grow up" and stick around and has a lot more art to make in the world. As per his family, despite the fact that the disease has "metastasized to his liver," Jenson "is young and strong" and expects to work as much as he can while receiving chemotherapy.

“His doctors think they have a shot at shrinking the tumors enough to do two very major surgeries and get them all out. He can make it through this. But Erik and his family are in for the fight of their lives, and they need your support.”

As of writing, the list of people who have made a contribution includes actor Nick Offerman and his wife Megan Mullally, Donna Lynne Champlin, Matt Shakman, Tom Fontana, Emily Kinney, and the nonprofit organization Broadway Cares.

Erik Jenson played the role of a doctor in The Walking Dead

In AMC's hit show The Walking Dead, Erik Jenson played the role of Dr. Steven Edwards - the smart, well-meaning but cowardly doctor at a hospital where several of the show’s main characters were held. His character appeared in Season 5.

The statement, which refers to Jessica Blank and Erik Jenson as "full-time freelance artists" who "live without the cushion that long-term commercial work can provide," talks about the financial burden brought on by the actors' and writers' double strike. Like "so many middle-class working actors," it continues, their financial situation has been impacted by the "lack of streaming residuals."

“Erik’s aneurysm, the double strikes and now this diagnosis have put their family in an extremely precarious financial position and they need a lot of help to make it through the next year, pay for treatment to fight his cancer, keep their home, and maintain some sort of stability for Sadie."

As per the statement, although Erik Jenson now has health insurance via SAG-AFTRA, his restricted capacity to work puts him in danger of losing coverage.
